POSITION SUMMARY

Directs all aspects of membership including recruitment of new members, retention of existing members and supervision of assigned staff. Develops, plans and implements new procedures and methods to achieve strategic goals.

ESSENTIAL STRATEGIC FUNCTIONS

  • Oversee the recruitment, interviews, hiring, supervision, and evaluation of highly motivated and productive membership development team. Provide support to staff as necessary. Ensure individual and staff awareness and understanding of YMCA programs and services, policies and procedures, and customer service and sales skills. Conduct staff meetings and trainings.
  • Develop and implement annual membership growth and retention goals and objectives that include monthly and weekly action plans. Responsible for supervision and management of department budget.
  • Identify and target specific markets and plan and implement member recruitment campaigns and promotions accordingly.
  • Establish positive, result-oriented relationships with area businesses, corporations, and organizations.
  • Oversee all aspects of membership sales, terminations, and exit interviews, including monitoring monthly membership goals, statistics, enrollment procedures, membership inquiries, tours, follow-up calls, closing ratios, and other recruitment efforts.

ESSENTIAL TACTICAL FUNCTIONS

  • Be responsible for the daily motivation of staff, setting daily, weekly, monthly performance goals.
  • Maintain daily sales tracking sheets and submit monthly sheet to the Executive Director and Core Service Leader for review and approval.
  • Monitor local competition and national trends.
  • Track all advertising response and determine effectiveness of campaign/promotion.
  • Develop and/or coordinate special events, presentations, seminars, and membership promotions within the community.
  • Oversee retention efforts including welcome letters, welcome phone calls and emails, termination letters, renewal notices, and termination follow up calls.
  • Monitor and ensure at all levels the highest level of member satisfaction
  • Demonstrate physical, emotional, and intellectual competencies necessary for good judgment when performing assigned duties.
  • Participate and support the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh membership management team ensuring association-wide goals are met. Attend and participate in trainings, meetings, and evaluations.
  • Accept and complete any special assignments as deemed appropriate by the Executive Director.
  • Wear professional business attire.
  • Provide updates to Facebook, Twitter, and E-newsletters on monthly basis.
  • Manage Branch Program Guide print material with all Department Directors
  • Distribute New Member Survey as requested by Executive Director
  • Update Message on Hold as needed
  • Work with Member Services Director to insure proper communication between front desk and membership
  • Attend Board meetings and give updates as needed.
  • Abide by the onboarding processes and procedures as defined by the YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh Human Resources team. This includes, but is not limited to the submission of all paperwork and criminal clearances to the satisfaction of the HR Team PRIOR to a staff member reporting to a site for work.
  • Meet timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance. Examples include but are not limited to Dayforce HCM for review and approval of employee time sheets and timely submission of credit card statement coding and supporting documentation to Accounts Payable.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis on marketing, sales, public relations, or business administration is preferred.
  • Experience in sales, customer service, membership or a related field is required.
  • Supervisory experience necessary.
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills and must be an energetic, creative and goal-oriented person.
  • Must have good knowledge of basic business principles, sound reasoning ability, and a high aptitude for working with people.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand; walk on uneven surfaces; sit; handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. The employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level is usually minimal to moderate.

Candidates must have final Criminal Clearance certificates prior to starting employment. This includes PA Criminal Certificate, NSOR Verification, PA FBI - Use Code: 1kg738 and PA Child Abuse.
