My client, a small hospital in Northeast NV in the Central Basin area, has a need for a Med Tech Generalist to join their team. Candidates MUST have the NV Supervisor license.

Right now they have the following available: evening (1230 to 2300) Our techs work 4 ten-hour days per week, alternating weekends and holidays.

Performs standard routine, complex, automated and manual lab techniques without direct supervision; insures proper functioning of lab equipment by performing preventative and corrective maintenance, and troubleshooting basic instrument malfunctions; calibrates and assesses the accuracy of lab equipment; performs, evaluates, and records quality control measures and institutes corrective action as appropriate; assists in maintaining inventory and supplies; performs phlebotomy using age specific techniques; collects, prepares and determines acceptability of specimens; prioritizes assignment of test results and coordinates general work flow; recognizes normal, abnormal or unexpected results, errors and problems with patient test results; evaluates, interprets and reports test results; observes principles of data security/patient confidentiality; assists in training of new assistants and technologists; supervises Laboratory Assistants; assists in evaluation of new methods and equipment; interacts with other healthcare workers to solve problems and interpret patient lab results; attends and participates in department meetings; and, performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Successful completion of National Registry Exam for Medical Technologist such as ASCP.

Must meet requirements for certification as a NV General Laboratory Supervisor.

3 years of generalist experience.

This is a predominantly 2nd shift, which for us is 1230 to 2300. We work four 10-hour shifts per week, alternating weekends and holidays.

My biggest caution is the workload. I can’t tell you how many candidates have been dismayed to arrive and find out that the hospital isn’t a sleepy little hospital that applies an occasional Band-Aid. We provide primary care for a goodly percentage of the town (not enough doctors practicing here) through our ER and employed physicians, and the 16 ER beds stay full most of the time. We deliver babies and we handle the occasional gunshot wounds, drug overdoses, and acute heart attack. Just so you know – if you are looking for a retirement gig that is generally peaceful and low stress, this isn’t it.
