Job Summary:

BMC is currently seeking a Medical Scribe to join our Orthopedic Team! This position is part-time, working a total of 30 hours per week Monday through Thursday.

Job Perks:

  • Part-time employees are eligible for medical / dental / vision, company-paid life insurance, voluntary benefits, RTD EcoPass, 401(k), and holiday pay (if regularly scheduled to work on an observed holiday).
  • Day shift schedules are Monday through Friday. There are occasional voluntary four (4) hour shifts on Saturday mornings from 8 am - 12 pm for several primary clinics (Family Medicine and Pediatrics).
  • Experience working in both primary care and specialty care clinics.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Accompanies the provider into the exam room to accurately and efficiently document the encounter.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with medical terminology in all documentation.
  • Lists all proper admission or discharge diagnoses as well as follow-up care instructions as dictated by provider.
  • Documents the time and reasoning for patient orders including lab tests, radiology tests and medications. Does not submit lab orders electronically.
  • Successfully navigates the location-specific Electronic Medical Record (or EMR) system to input documentation.
  • Inform provider when diagnostic studies are completed, prepare for review, and document in EMR.
  • Concentrates on the needs of the provider throughout the entire shift.
  • Understand and observe legal concepts (e.g. HIPAA, confidentiality)

Required Experience:


Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency with at least one major EMR platform (such as Epic, NextGen, Greenway, etc.).
  • Exposure to multiple EMR platforms is highly desired.
  • Broad knowledge base of cardiology practices, knowledge of acute practice based on skill level, licensure and scope of practice.
  • Good history-taking skills, strong, competent computer skills.
  • Accurate and complete documentation skills.
  • Good time management and organizational skills.
  • Relate well and communicate with patients, providers, and staff.
  • Able to demonstrate self-direction in establishing priorities and working with little supervision.
  • Able to maintain high level of precision in judgment, accuracy of assessment, and skill in problem solving under stress based on skill level, licensure and scope of practice.

Education:

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant (MA) education program.
  • Active EMT and / or Surgical Tech certification are acceptable credentials to substitute Medical Assistant (MA) education.
  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree with an concentration in science / health sciences are acceptable credentials to substitute Medical Assistant (MA) education. Applicant(s) must submit unofficial college transcripts for Medical Assistant (MA) job placement approval.

Previous Experience:

  • 1-2 years’ experience as a medical scribe in a hospital or clinic setting, preferred.

Initial Training on the Job:

  • Three (3) months.

Salary Range:

  • $16.69-$21.70/hour; depending on experience
