Job description
Works under the supervision of a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Tech. and performs limited laboratory testing consistent with Quality Improvement measures and maintains assigned areas in sanitary conditions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
- Performs routine testing and reporting as evidenced by:
- Follows policy and procedure manual guidelines for performing various tests and collections as evidenced by monitoring of completed lab slips periodically by designated Technologist.
- Follows Quality Control methods as evidence by observation of supervisor.
- Assists in maintaining instrument logs and performs adequate periodic maintenance procedures evidence by monitoring logs.
- Performs capillary and venous punctures to obtain satisfactory specimens for assay or transport evidenced by assignment.
- Uses prescribed sterile techniques and observes isolation guides as set forth by Nursing Service and Hospital Policy and Safety manuals evidenced by maintaining rapport with Nursing Service, physicians, and other hospital departments to expedite the hospital’s mission.
- Performs satisfactory collection of specimens and other tasks in the following sections of the Laboratory: Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, Serology, Coagulation, and other areas as may be designated by their supervisor or evidenced by observation and monitoring.
- Arrives to work on time, avoids unnecessary idle time, and generally adheres with Laboratory policy. Avoids situation that would require disciplinary actions or Incident Reports requiring intervention by their supervisor
*EDUCATION/TRAINING
Phlebotomist certification in one or more of the following;
American College of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP)
American Medical Technologist (AMT)
National Certification Association (NCA)
Foreign National Certification that is acceptable to the state and other agencies.
Maintain adequate Continuing Education Requirements as mandated.
Current BLS certification required.
