MEDICAL BILLING SPECIALIST – Atlantis, FL

PURPOSE: The Billing Specialist performs a variety of medical billing and accounting functions. They are responsible for following up on submitted claims and the overall patient billing process. Communicates with insurance companies regarding delinquent payment and/or denial resolution.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for submitting claims and following up with insurance companies to include working through denials and rejections of claims
• Submit clean claims to various insurance companies electronically and on paper
• Contact insurance to follow-up on claim status
• Performs timely follow-up on outstanding charges
• Performs various collection actions including contacting patients by phone
• Obtains medical records to provide supporting documentation as needed
• Prepares and submits appeals to insurance companies
• Notifies Management of trends identified
• Works aging reports
• Documents information regarding the status of collection efforts
• All other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: * Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

• Good computer skills
• Ability to type a minimum of 30 wpm
• Good organizational skills
• Ability to prioritize
• Possess a basic understanding of HCFA regulations, HIPAA regulations, and Medicare/Medicaid updates
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: * High school graduate or equivalent

• Medical billing and insurance experience
• Minimum of 2 year working in billing or collections
• ECW experience required; at least 2 years

Pay: $18.00 - $26.00 per hour
