Job Summary:
A healthcare provider employed by Erlanger Health System performs a variety of duties involved in both the clinical and administrative areas under the direction of an RN, LPN, Physician, Nurse Practitioner or Physician including assisting providers with patient care and handling clerical, environmental and organizational tasks. This includes those staff who are working in the designated Rural Health Clinics.

Education:
Required:
High School diploma/equivalent. Completion of an accredited (or in process of accreditation within 2 years) Medical Assistant Program or completion of a governed Medical Assistant program or completed equivalent military training. If candidate has not completed an approved MA program, candidate must pass an Erlanger medical assistant competency exam in lieu of completion of approved MA program.

Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office. Electrocardiogram (EKG), vital signs, venipuncture, capillary and injection current experience. Computer skills and working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Windows and Office applications.

Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration
Required:
BLS completed prior to going to the unit/department and maintained going forward. Work under direct supervision until a level of competency is achieved to adequately perform the job duties. This will be demonstrated by competency completion by licensed clinical personnel.

Perform a variety of duties involved in both the clinical and administrative areas including assisting providers with patient care and handling clerical, environmental and organizational tasks. Provide information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the practice.
Perform coding and reimbursement of patient records by reading, assessing and interpreting applicable medical record documentation for outpatient and inpatient encounters. Ability to follow standard practices in coding & reimbursement.
