Job description
The Medical Assistant is responsible for maintaining the area in readiness, of providing high quality hands on care. This includes initial screening of Vital signs, Weight / Height, chronic, acute medical problems, current medication and mobility problems, monitoring patient flow, assuring documentation and billing for treatment medication and supplies. Provide medical transport as needed to emergency department. Conduct Chart Reviews and statistical data collection with an outcome of maintaining a regulatory readiness, accrediting body standards, hospital and Primary Care Center’s policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assessment of Vital Signs - Ability to recognize abnormal vital signs or changes in patient’s condition and make RN, LPN or Medical Provider aware of changes.
- Ensure collection of medical reports, consults, lab & radiology reports are placed in patient’s record.
- Assist other staff in making sure all patients are cared for and ensure success with meeting hospital, regulatory and departmental operational goals.
- Actively works with the leadership promoting safe cost-effective patient care with the retention and recruitment of patients and services.
- Professional development by maintaining - all credentials (license, CPR and ACLS).
- Competencies and attending educational workshops, classes and seminars
- Ensures department supplies and equipment are budgeted for, available, serviced, and managed through quality controls mechanisms on a consistent basis.
- Resolves problems by working collaboratively with physicians, nursing, support staff. and other care providers.
- After assessing patient obtain all test- lab and radiology results to increase clinic productivity. Report all adverse results to RN, LPN and Medical Provider.
- Assists proper orientation and training, studies activity, and assist other staff in specific working areas and duties within the clinical area.
- Assures compliance with accreditation requirements of such agencies as Department of Health and Joint Commission.
- Works with Department leadership staff to create, implement, and control established budgets.
- Schedule leave in advance of schedule posting.
- Monitor code cart, refrigerator temperature, medication, treatment and supply billing to patient to ensure departmental expenditures are maintained within budget parameters.
- Monitor supply and medication par levels.
- Consistent billing of treatment, medication and supplies.
- Be mindful of T&A to ensure adequate staffing is always available
Graduated from an accredited institution with Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, or License Practical Nurse.- Possess CPR certification current.
- Initiative and ability to work as a team as well as independently.
- Effective interpersonal, communication and leadership skills.
- Proven verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively in a multi-dimensional environment.
- Computer proficiency in Outlook. Preference for ECW or EMR training.
- Ability to do prior authorizations and referrals.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound judgment.
- Ability to work in a deadline driven environment and manage multiple tasks
