Primary Purpose of Position
The Medical and Health Program Consultant (Health Promotion Manager) is responsible for establishing and maintaining the effective operation and administration of education, programming, and services relating to general health education and wellness and specific university student health issues. The purpose of this position is to monitor national trends and help to ensure that relevant outreach, educational programming, and resources are provided to meet the needs of the students and campus community. This position will provide strategic leadership, goals, objectives, and guidance in the development of a healthy environment for students, faculty, and staff. This position will serve as a critical campus asset that creates capabilities to address and overcome health disparities and inequities, leveraging defined dimensions of wellness, including but not limited to:

  • Physical – Engaging in healthy activities and behavior while taking care of one’s body, nutrition, fitness, and medical self-care
  • Emotional – Developing self-awareness and managing stress in healthy ways
  • Environmental – Developing an awareness of your surroundings and build an understanding the impact that the environment has on your well-being and the world around you
  • Financial – Achieving a balance between having a healthy state of well being today while preparing financially for tomorrow, feeling in control over one’s current finances and their financial future
  • Occupational– Achieving a healthy balance between class-work, employment, and personal time by addressing workplace and classroom stresses, and building strong relationships with coworkers and classmates
  • Intellectual – Education, new perspectives, mental stimulation, career development
  • Social/Interpersonal – building and maintaining healthy relationships with family, friends and others, a sense of belonging, and contributing to a community
  • Spiritual – Finding purpose, value and meaning in one’s life with or without an organized religion
  • Cultural – create and maintain a self-awareness of your cultural background as you recognize and build a sense of belonging within cultural differences

Management Preference
Master’s degree in health education, public health, or health promotion Four years of college health/public health-related experience

Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES)
Experience research and/or grant writing
Experience serving as a supervisor and student leader
Experience with creating budgets
Experience with team building and facilitating workshops

Lic or Certification required by statute or regulation
