USS-UPI, LLC a United States Steel Company, (formerly USS-POSCO Industries) a world-class ISO certified steeling finishing facility in Pittsburg, CA. UPI produces cold-rolled sheets, galvanized sheets, tin plate and tin-free steel from hot-rolled coils supplied by other U. S. Steel facilities. The facility services sheet and tin mill products customers, principally in the western United States. UPI’s annual production capability is approximately 1.5 million tons.

The Mechanical Repair position is a position that performs tasks that require knowledge of tools, equipment, and basic mechanical tasks that do not require the expertise and experience of a journeyman maintenance mechanic.

A successful applicant will have experience in maintaining and repairing mechanical equipment such as automobiles, agricultural machinery, conveyor systems, etc.

The primary functions of this position would be to perform routine and general repetitive field and shop work in inspecting, testing, dismantling, cleaning, repairing and assembling of mechanical equipment.

Such work would include but not be limited to:

• Inspects mechanical equipment for proper operation, making repairs and adjustments as required.
• Maintains a supply of spare replacement parts.
• Cleans equipment, checks lubrication and performs other preventive maintenance.
• Lubricates mechanical equipment.
• Assists on repair jobs throughout the plant as assigned.
• Locks out equipment as directed.
• Procures tools and equipment parts for the field and assigned maintenance crews.
• Changes various filters as required.
• Review and interpret drawings, blueprints and sketches in making adjustments and repairs.
• Fills out various inspection reports and notifies supervision of operating or equipment problems.
• Cuts, bends and threads pipe, assembles fittings.
• Performs bench work as required, using wrenches, hand files, chisels, scrapers, hacksaws, hammers, vise, light drill press, and similar tools.
• May use portable impact gun, wrenches, electric drill, air grinder, air chipping gun or hydraulic press for assembly work.

Physical Demands & Environmental Factors

• This position is conducted mostly in a manufacturing environment.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sitting, standing, walking, bending, squatting, kneeling, crawling, twisting, balancing, climbing, carrying, pulling, pushing, reaching/shoulder positions, handling bilateral/unilateral, fingering bilateral/unilateral.
• The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include far acuity, accommodation, and depth perception. Color vision is necessary to identify color-coded materials. Good or well-corrected vision is essential working safely around moving machinery
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, exposure to dust, gas or fumes, working around moving mechanical parts, noise intensity level, and safety equipment.
