The Mechanical Designer reports to the Manager of Engineering and will work closely with the Project Management, Application Engineering, Purchasing/Planning, and Manufacturing teams in execution of standard and custom projects within the North America water/wastewater markets. The Mechanical Designer will design mechanical systems by preparing layouts, general assembly drawings, bills of material (“BOM”), and component specifications while maintaining high quality and accuracy, and providing support to engineers and manufacturing personnel. This full-time position is based in Chemical Feed’s Vineland, New Jersey facility.
Essential Job Functions

The Mechanical Designer will design mechanical systems by preparing layouts, general assembly drawings, bills of material (“BOM”), and component specifications while maintaining high quality and accuracy, and providing support to engineers and manufacturing personnel. This full-time position is based in Chemical Feed’s Vineland, New Jersey facility.
Essential Job Functions
- Create mechanical drawings and generate BOMs, for both standard and custom designs as directed.
- Review and interpret customer specifications from the industrial and municipal industries.
- Thorough understanding of Chemical Feed drafting practices and procedures, plus the ability to perform and apply a variety of mathematical calculations and a thorough working knowledge of shop assembly processes.
- Identify deficiencies in current design procedures and methods and provide ideas and solutions to improve department performance in efficiency and accuracy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to interpret proposals, P&IDs, specifications, construction drawings, and mechanical processes.
- 2+ years experience in Mechanical SolidWorks in the creation of parts and full mechanical assemblies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple activities at the same time while maintaining schedule.
- Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Good organizational, planning, and problem-solving capability.
- Detailed-oriented, self-starter, and able to handle tasks for multiple projects at the same time.
- Knowledge of Applicable Industrial Codes and Standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the municipal water and/or wastewater industries.
- Experience using 2D CAD.
- Experience in an applications or sales support role that included bidding and selling capital equipment.
- Ability to identify and define system design requirements based on written and design specifications.
Physical Demands
- Ability to sit for long periods of time.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50lbs.
- Manual dexterity to operate equipment/tools.
- Physical ability to perform work in a standing, stooping, sitting, or bending position for extended periods of time.
- Ability to look at computer monitors for much of the workday.
Work Environment
- Approximately 90% Office Setting; and
- Approximately 10% Light Industrial – May be exposed to areas of high noise levels, hazardous propellants, chemicals and industrial facilities.
- Appropriate PPE and training will be provided for all conditions.
