General Role and Responsibilities:

  • The McKinney-Vento Family Coordinator is responsible for working closely with the McKinney-Vento Liaison to support students and families identified as McKinney-Vento. The Family Coordinator will work to connect families to resources in the community.


Specific Responsibilities in this Position:

  • Assist the McKinney-Vento Liaison to ensure that homeless families and students receive educational services for which they are eligible and referrals to health-care services, dental services, mental health services and other appropriate services.


  • Assist the McKinney-Vento Liaison with the identification and intake process of homeless students.


  • Provide support to families and students identified as McKinney-Vento


  • Ensure that parents of homeless students are informed of the educational and related opportunities available to the student


  • Assist families in retrieving necessary documents such as birth certificates, transcripts, immunization records, etc. when the family does not possess them.


  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and outside agencies.


  • Track attendance and grades of homeless students to identify any needs that may need to be addressed.


  • Assist high school seniors with the FAFSA application process.


  • Maintains professional competence through participation in professional development opportunities, including the creation and implementation of staff development activities.


  • Performs other duties as assigned


Qualifications and Educational Requirements:


  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to use technology
  • Knowledge and understanding of McKinney-Vento law as it relates to homeless students, educational supports and resources available to families.
  • Proficient in Google, Microsoft and PowerSchool
  • Display a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Ability to work with diverse populations
  • Ability to communicate and read documents in Spanish

Physical Requirements:

Candidate should be physically capable of successfully performing the essential functions of this position. May be required to sit or stand for extended lengths of time while providing instruction.
