The Materials and Processes Engineer will:
- Advise, guide, and provide consultation on Materials & Processes requirements for intravehicular (IVA) and extravehicular (EVA) environments, including materials selection, process control and qualification, design for corrosion prevention, and processes specification.
- Review project/program documentation and specifications to ensure NASA standards are met regarding Materials and Processes, flammability control, toxicity, and off gassing of materials used in spaceflight hardware.
- Provide Materials and Processes design support, including materials selection, design for corrosion prevention, drawing review, and processes specification.
- Provide input to program/project specifications and ensure appropriate materials requirements are incorporated into all specifications at the right level.
- Perform failure analysis on spacecraft hardware and ground support equipment.
- Other duties as required
Requisition Qualifications:
- BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and five (5) years of related engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and four (4) years of related engineering experience, or Ph.D. from an accredited engineering school and zero (0) years of related experience.
- Must have excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to critically assess manufacturing/material processes and designs, and work in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Be knowledgeable of metallic and nonmetallic materials specifications, properties, and testing.
- Ability to work independently.
- Familiarity with desktop software applications, MS Office is required.
Requisition Preferences:
- BS degree in Metallurgical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science from an ABET accredited engineering school and a minimum of five (5) years of related engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and four (4) years of related engineering experience, or Ph.D. from an accredited engineering school and zero (0) years of related experience.
- Knowledge of NASA/Aerospace standards, specifications, and material data requirements for spaceflight hardware.
- Previous experience supporting Materials and Processes development, test, and evaluation activities for NASA and/or Aerospace projects.
