The Materials Analysis Engineer (MAE) position at Asahi Kasei Plastics North America (APNA) supports the Application/ Product Development Engineering group to manage, plan and execute the material testing, analysis and reporting activities to support various customer projects.
The role is primarily responsible for advanced analytical analysis of polymer compounds to support research and application development. The successful candidate will have a strong background in problem solving, with significant experience working with a wide variety of test equipment- mechanical (tensile, impact, creep, fatigue, etc.) as well as analytical (DSC, TGA, FTIR, DMA, TMA, GC, microscopy, etc.). This position requires the selected candidate to spend majority of their time performing hands-on work in a laboratory setting. This includes both routine testing as well as troubleshooting and method development / validation. The ideal candidate will also have a strong skillset in statistical analysis, communication (written and oral), and the ability to work with a variety of internal stakeholders and customers.
Job Tasks
- R&D Testing Projects Management – Manage, Prioritize and Execute all development testing projects with Engineering group for timely and accurate completion of all testing.
- Data Analysis – Apply data analysis skills to ensure accuracy of testing, make technical judgements & conclusions for test data
- Data Reporting - Report accurate data, organize proper summary reports (PowerPoint/Excel), Store data in accurate locations
- Test Equipment expertise- Master operational use of all test equipment, develop test methods, learn software tools for analysis, coordinate with equipment suppliers to resolve issues
- Provide injection molding support as necessary
- Ensure that all activities are completed in compliance with legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements, including IATF 16949 / ISO 17025 / ISO 14001
- Champions safe work practices, proactively identifies and addresses safety risks within the organization
Qualifications
(Education, Experience, Licensures, and Certifications)
- Bachelor / Master of Science in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
- 3 years hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation.
- Preferred experience in polymer applications testing.
Required Skills
- Proficient in Laboratory practices and safety
- Ability to work with people at all levels of the organization
- Ability to write technical reports and present to an audience
- Analytical method development and validation experience
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Results-oriented, with ability to solve complex problems with analytical science tools
- MS Office & Enterprise Software experience preferred
- Project Management & Communication skills
Work Environment / Physical Demands / Travel
- Laboratory environment, must be able to wear PPE when required including but not limited to earplugs, safety glasses, steel toe boots, hardhat, dust mask
- Sits, walks, stands, walks stairs. Occasionally lifts 30 lbs.
- Occasional supplier or customer locations and APNA office sites
