MARKETING MANAGER

ABOUT KHAN LAB SCHOOL

In 2012, Sal Khan wrote The One World Schoolhouse, in which he outlines how modern education developed and how Khan Academy came to be. But, most importantly, the book outlines a vision for the future of both in-person and online education given the tools we have and the need for many more people to participate in the knowledge economy. In 2014, he founded Khan Lab School to test and refine these ideas in an actual school setting.

Today, Khan Lab School has grown to be a K-12 independent school on two campuses serving over 260 students in Silicon Valley. The Lower School (K-6) program is located in Palo Alto. California. The Upper School (7-12) is located in Mountain View, California.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

The Marketing Manager is part of the marketing and communications team, working closely with the Director of Strategic Marketing and the Creative Director to execute the strategic marketing plan. This role focuses on internal and external communications that showcase the unique learning environment and student experience Khan Lab School offers. The ideal candidate is eager to be immersed in daily school life, getting to know students and faculty. This person brings an entrepreneurial spirit and appreciation for innovation.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Collaborating with the advancement and admissions teams and through immersion into daily life at the school, the Marketing Manager will learn how our founding ideals come to life in and out of the classroom. The Marketing Manager will write content to be used across various marketing pieces including newsletters, our website, in blog posts and across social channels. This role will help with key school events that engage external audiences from set up to capturing to sharing, such as graduations, Exhibitions, Back-to-School Nights and Open Houses. The marketing team uses a custom-built CMS platform on our website and Hubspot for CRM and marketing automation. Having experience in Hubspot will be ideal. However, a strong comfort level with learning tech and software platforms is necessary.

This role reports to the Director of Strategic Marketing and will work closely with admissions, advancement, and college guidance. It is full time, on-site, and is based on the Mountain View campus but will require spending time on the Palo Alto campus, typically two days per week.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Working closely with the marketing team:

  • Plan and execute programs that enhance the visibility and public perception of Khan Lab School while ensuring that our strategic messaging is delivered in our content.
  • Develop content for marketing collateral including website pages, social media, blog posts, strategic marketing pieces, and other marketing initiatives.
  • Build the strategy for and maintain a robust social media plan.
  • Immerse with students and staff on campus and in the classroom to gain more insight into the stories that can be shared that demonstrate our unique lab school story and showcase the work of our faculty and students.
  • Manage the weekly newsletter in Hubspot.
  • Own email communication development and deployment through Hubspot as well as related landing pages.
  • Create and maintain website content and oversee changes to the website.
  • Collaborate with key administrators to support school events and capture photos/video that showcase Khan Lab School and contribute to the archival photo library.
  • Support the communications needs of admissions, advancement and alumni relations as needed.
  • Work with the Creative Director to ensure visual branding guidelines remain consistent on school communication pieces and channels and support the creation of video assets as needed.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE INCLUDE:

  • 3-5 years of experience in marketing or communications
  • BS degree in marketing or relevant field
  • Strong writing skills (samples to be requested)
  • Ability to create content as well as identify and generate creative story ideas
  • Ability to engage with students and faculty in support of the above
  • Proficient in social media strategy development and deployment
  • Experience in Hubspot preferred; or, ability and willingness to learn this platform required
  • Ability to work in a content management system to update the website
  • Technical skills to support the above; ability to learn new platforms and document the processes
  • Ability to work with key partners such as web developers, creative/graphic agencies or freelancers, videographers/producers, PR, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, a flexible, collaborative work style and an engaging and curious personality
  • Appreciates the start up energy of a ten year old school

SALARY RANGE AND LOCATION

Location: Mountain View, CA.
This on-site full-time position is tuition remission, health, dental, and vision benefits eligible
Manager: 80-95K

Start Date: By June 1, 2023
