Wolters Kluwer Health LRP (HLRP) is seeking a Market Research Manager - (Market Intelligence Officer) to help capture and disseminate timely competitive insights and strategic and tactical recommendations to key functional stakeholders across the business about competitors, market trends, and industries of interest to LRP. This role is responsible for the development and execution of competitive intelligence collection, including managing, planning and execution of CI analysis and communicating findings into actionable insights and learning opportunities for the company. They will build a comprehensive understanding of the competitive landscape by developing and delivering analysis and insights related to competitors and the overall industry ecosystem. Using internal and external data, the MIM will also help identify gaps, strengths, and weaknesses in knowledge around the company’s platforms, publishing programs, products, and solutions, usability and functionality, content offerings, and implementation of content.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Analyze and prepare profiles of key competitor companies and design and develop reports for competitive intelligence projects and ad hoc requests. Proactively monitor and communicate key industry, customer, and competitor shifts

Provide analysis of the company and competitors’ marketing and strategic initiatives to identify key insights and opportunities.

Present Intelligence findings and make strategic and tactical recommendations based on the aggregation and analysis of relevant, high-quality qualitative and quantitative information. Techniques may include but are not limited to thematic overviews, executive summaries, compelling story lines (e.g., scenario analysis), landscape assessments, key take-aways.

Keep abreast of changing industry trends in healthcare, medicine, libraries, publishing, academia, life sciences and technology and related areas, and demographics and other relevant issues and informs peers and upper management in a timely manner.

Develop creative metrics and methods to push timely and relevant information to various audiences in a user-friendly manner, (e.g., dashboards and SharePoint (intranet) knowledge portal site), in order to constantly raise the organization’s Market and Industry IQ

Focus on intelligence-gathering activities directed at supporting revenue growth.

Manage the gathering, synthesis, dissemination, and maintenance of information from a variety of internal and external sources regarding a wide variety of competitors and markets including but not limited to strategy, financials, merger, acquisition and divestiture, partnerships, new product launches, developments, etc. Identify and manage outsourcing of competitive research projects with consultants, in consultation with the Market Insights director and budget

Maintain internal platforms and repositories to promote intelligence contributions and self-help research across the organization

Contribute regularly to internal-facing outreach programs (e.g., newsletters, town hall meetings)

Coordinate an open-invitation, biweekly competitive presentation (align topics, speakers, and present from time-to-time)

Maintain strict quality control and ethical standards, privacy and confidentiality for all work and that of the department according to Wolters Kluwer policies and generally accepted competitive intelligence including the SCIP Code of Ethics

Onboard new hires on primary competitors and opportunities for HLRP

Attend select trade shows and conferences in the marketplace for the purpose of competitive intelligence gathering using competitive processes and methods and report findings and insights

Develop and sustains a human intelligence network of internal and external sources using competitive processes and methods to obtain tacit unpublished tips, insights and competitive intelligence.

Work collaboratively with key internal stakeholders to remain informed of their changing competitive objectives and to build a diverse internal network for primary intelligence gathering and cross-validation.

Identify and evaluate existing or new vendors and products for competitive intelligence needs and make recommendations regarding acquisition or divestment, ensure collaboration with existing vendors

Use, enhance and/or develop best practices for competitive intelligence information, policies and practices for LRP. Maintain awareness of CI trends, techniques, consultants/agencies and attend professional conferences or webinars as needed

Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by your line manager/director on a permanent or temporary basis.
Optional Duties and Responsibilities:

Become a subject matter expert in digital solutions relevant to our business, institutional market trends (e.g., academia, hospitals), and assisting our institutional customers with “expert” search development using Ovid and similar Wolters Kluwer products

Support formal and information customer advisory boards, expert networks, and related activities

Represent HLRP though committee involvement and speaking engagements at industry events (e.g., MLA, SLA, NISO)
Education and Experience:
-
Ideal candidate will have 7+ years of business experience; with experience managing market intelligence and analysis efforts and/or research services. A background in medical research and healthcare publishing is preferred.

Experience must include quantitative and qualitative research and/or competitive intelligence gathering.

Strong self-starter, able to work independently and capable of achieving results across functions with demonstrated ability to work with varied personalities

Strong creativity, analytical skills and problem-solving skills, including out-of-the-box thinking as well as data-analysis to support CI roles and responsibilities.

Knowledge of and/or prior use of standard information/research sources found in medicine, academia and/or business

Highly organized with strong analytical, presentation, and interpersonal skills

Strong team player, highly adept at networking and positive interactions with all sources

Demonstrated project-management, writing and presentation skills, can succeed in fast-paced environment managing multiple projects at once

Global responsibility and/or multi-campus/system scope in past experience is a plus.

Knowledge of existing competitive environment preferred

Strong work ethic, passion for information and research and strong sense of ownership

Familiarity with SharePoint, Excel, SaleForce.com, FirstLight

Knowledge of industry, competitors, people, licensing, copyright, IP, federation, RSS, websites, literature search, CME, EHR
Travel:
Ability to travel as needed. (Domestic travel 10% - mainly WK offices in New York and Philadelphia, attending conferences as needed for onsite research, International 2% - mainly Europe).
