POSITION TITLE
Marine Environmental Regulatory Specialist

OVERVIEW

The Marine Environmental Regulatory Specialist applies a broad knowledge of Federal, State, and Local regulations to complex engineering solutions. Focusing on coastal and waterfront sites, the Marine Environmental Regulatory Specialist is responsible for independently evaluating a proposed engineering/construction plan for conformance with regulations and working with the engineering team to tailor the project for regulatory approval.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Evaluates engineering designs for conformance with current laws/regulations
• Prepares environmental permit applications including project scopes, required forms, and supplemental information
• Coordinates with regulators to set pre-application discussions and leads project introductions/discussions
• Tracks and maintains an active status log of multiple permit applications
• Guides project team through environmental review and advises on next steps
• Coordinates technical responses to regulatory agencies with the engineering team
• Identifying new rules and regulations to advise project development
• Works collaboratively with internal and external partners on multidisciplinary design/engineering projects.

REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree in marine environmental sciences, marine environmental policy/law, marine and natural resources, environmental engineering and/or a related field.
• Cursory knowledge of Federal Regulations (Section 404, Section 10, Section 401) and review processes (NEPA).
• Cursory knowledge and experience with New York State Regulations (Tidal Wetlands, Coastal Erosion Management, Docks and Platforms, Fill, etc.) and review processes (SEQR).
• Cursory knowledge and experience with New York City regulations pertaining to waterfront and in-water construction.
• A minimum of two years of experience.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Able to thrive in a team focused environment and engage in creative, critical thought; takes initiative and can function at a high level on multi-disciplinary teams.
