The Republican, an award-winning daily and Sunday newspaper headquartered in Springfield, Massachusetts, (online home, MassLive.com, the largest digital news website in Massachusetts), seeks a Managing Editor.

The successful candidate for this senior leadership executive position should have a demonstrated depth of experience in a fast-paced news environment, including editing and management experience, have a passion for community news and experience in overseeing digital and print newsrooms, bring and inspire innovative strategies to grow readership online and in print and be willing to become an active and engaged member of the Western Massachusetts community.

Responsibilities:

This person will be responsible for working with the publisher and executive editor to conceive and execute an editorial vision for our print and online operations that delivers robust, responsive and balanced content across all platforms.

Lead the newsroom, assign and edit stories as well as write editorials.

Work with other department heads on efforts to grow subscribers and revenue.

Articulate and personally represent the standards and values of the newspaper.

Collaborate with MassLive colleagues on digital strategy, audience and product development and other Advance Local company initiatives.

Preferred Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field.

Minimum of five years’ experience with a daily newspaper.

Considerable knowledge of good newspaper design and media production.

Ability to manage newsroom operations and mentor and manage employees.

Excellent editing, planning and organizational skills on short-term and long-term projects on multiple platforms

Superior communicator and collaborator and thoughtful leader

Strong digital skills and an ability to conceptualize and frame coverage for multiple platforms
