Role Summary
The Managing Director, Ground Crew Planning sets the long-term ground planning strategy and oversees the financial performance of AOCS, Call Center and M&E Resource Planning (CSAs, RSAs, Call Center Agents and Mechanics) at Alaska Air. As a people leader, this role establishes strategic goals and direction for a team of leaders to execute ground-related planning, staffing and productivity for future growth and stability of the Company’s ground operations.
Key Duties
- Establishes, leads and executes the development and implementation of the division’s strategic business plans, performance measurements, and the development of divisions or corporate goals focusing on continuous improvements of people, systems, and processes.
- Drives efficient and accurate use of AOCS, Call Center and Maintenance resources including partnering with the Training and Commercial departments in planning and processes.
- Oversees the development, implementation, and maintenance of technology solutions (hardware and software) to support ground resources, training and leadership strategies.
- Leads the management and administration of ground schedule bidding
- Drives the divisions’ business management, analytical, and planning capability.
- Responsible for conducting regular analyses to ensure training capacity is sufficient to support the airline’s growth plans. Expected to present investment recommendations to senior leadership required to sustain future growth.
- Ensures analytical rigor plays an active part in division operating decisions.
- Promotes a high-performance culture by developing people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on fostering strategic and systems thinking, development of talent, and succession planning across teams and functions.
- Influences company culture through action, presence, and reinforcement of behaviors.
- Coordinates and works with the AOCS, Call Center and Maintenance VPs and Managing Directors as well as the President of McGee Air Services to ensure departmental cooperation in achieving division goals and financial performance.
- Assumes leadership support role for the divisions’ negotiation team for IAM and AMFA negotiations.
Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills
Required:
- 10 years of business management or planning experience.
- 5 years people leadership experience managing large work groups with multiple layers.
- Bachelor’s degree, or willingness to attain bachelor’s degree within six years of start date.
- Proven ability to leverage business acumen, analytic and critical thinking capability to position the organization as a critical business partner.
- Sound, strategic thinker with a track record of demonstrating good judgement, strong business acumen, and executing plans with a sense of urgency and a mind for safety.
- High energy, positive and executive-level presence along with strong communication (e.g., verbal, written, presentation) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to create collaborative relationships that drive outcomes in the best interest of the company, with others in the organization, and with key external business partners.
- Skilled at making and defending tough decisions, while demonstrating care and concern for the opinions of others, both inside and outside the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to influence change and initiate actions that have strategic impact and drive a high-performance culture.
- An active and effective leader that communicates well with her/his team to motivate and develop staff.
- Minimum age of 18.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred:
- Master of Business Administration degree.
