The Fairfax County Health Department is a progressive public health leader providing services that promote population health, protect public health and the environment, and ensure residents' equitable access to health services and information.

This position serves as a facility assistant to ensure that facility issues are resolved promptly and effectively. Under the supervision of the Assistant Division Director, supports and conducts facility-related requests, work orders, projects, initiatives, and activities. Manages all routine maintenance requests for all Health Department worksites; uses the electronic facility request process and workflow to ensure all facility requests are met in a timely manner. Manages day-to-day coordination and issues of the multi-agency Cameron Glenn facility. In coordination with the facilities coordinator, ensures FCHD facilities and equipment are ready for regular operations and unplanned events. Supports facility-related processes, procedures, contracts, and services. Interacts with maintenance vendors, moving companies, and service providers to ensure Health Department facility needs are met. Supports space planning initiatives. Ensures all Health Department worksites maintain up-to-date Emergency Action Plans (EAP) and meet all relevant requirements of their EAP including fire drills, shelter-in-place drills, and other activities defined in EAPs. Ensures that all drills are documented and reported to Risk Management Division and EP&R leadership in a timely manner. Support staff in the implementation of corrective actions and facility-related improvements as a result of lessons learned during EAP drills. Supports the creation and revision of facility-related written products and trainings and supports facility trainings and briefings. Provides administrative and logistical support to EP&R programs, projects, and events; serves on the Incident Management Team for emergency responses and planned events. Serves as a facilities subject matter expert to department and EP&R programs and initiatives.

NOTE: The salary offer for the position will be in the minimum to midpoint range ($54,421.54 to $72,561.84) of the advertised compensation range.

This is an emergency responder position. As an emergency responder working in an emergency response organization, during an emergency activation, employee may be required to work irregular hours, work at a location other than the official duty station, support the department on a 24/7 basis and perform duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Required to work nights, weekends and be available for emergency activations.

The assigned functional areas of the position are contract administration, project management, budget management, data research/analysis and quality, quantity analysis.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in the field related to the assigned functional area.

BRIDGE CLASS EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Four years of increasingly complex technical experience in the assigned functional area, comparable to experience at the Admin Assistant IV, or higher, level. This class can serve as a bridge class enabling individuals who do not meet the educational or professional experience standards listed above to qualify for this class by possessing four years of increasingly complex technical experience in the assigned functional area, comparable to experience at the Admin Assistant IV, or higher, level. The purpose of this bridge class is to promote upward mobility within the Fairfax County workforce. However persons qualifying for this class on the basis of their technical experience may not substitute this technical experience for education, or for professional experience, in order to qualify for other employment opportunities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Two or more years of increasingly responsible experience in facilities, or operations management.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within a fast-paced team environment.
  • Models outstanding customer service skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative relationships.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other software applications (i.e. Word and Excel).
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • Valid Driver's license.
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation - CPR (Required within 60 days).
  • AED (Required within 60 days).

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to the position will be required to complete a criminal background check, child protective registry check, and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job is generally sedentary in nature; however, job entails walking, standing, sitting, climbing stairs, reaching and bending; uses hands to grasp, handle, or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Incumbent must be able to operate keyboard driven equipment and computer. Ability to drive a vehicle. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. Employee may be required to lift up or carry up to 25 lbs. occasionally. Generally works in an office environment yet may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting. All duties are performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
