The Makers + Mentors Network (MMN), a STEM initiative of Citizen Schools, is partnering with community colleges, nonprofits, school districts, and minority serving institutions to run the Maker Fellows program. This position is located in Dayton, OH, and is hosted by Montgomery County Educational Service Center (Dayton Regional STEM Center). The Maker Fellow will support programming that provides direct services through hands-on making experiences, while simultaneously strengthening and building capacity to sustain effective K-12 to community college pipeline programs over time. The Maker Fellow will provide support for existing programming, such as iMake @ Home Challenges, Science Saturdays, and regional Career Weeks (i.e., healthcare, manufacturing, STEM, computer science) in collaboration with the Dayton Regional STEM Center, Sinclair Community College, and local partners. The Maker Fellow will plan and host maker-centered learning activities with families, afterschool programs, and schools in the Dayton region, with a focus on equity and access for underrepresented students. As a Maker Fellow, you will join a cohort of 26 AmeriCorps VISTA members placed at leading organizations across the country and participate in a year-long structured and collaborative learning pathway. Member Duties : This program will connect K-12 students to maker-centered learning opportunities that help students build the academic and social emotional skills key to their success in school, postsecondary enrollment and workforce placement. Maker Fellows, through service in their local communities and participation in targeted professional development, will become life-long leaders and champions of maker-centered learning and mentorship for under-served students. Maker-centered learning provides a unique chance for students to explore the real world through designing, hacking, building, and experimenting, through the use of digital design and fabrication technologies and makerspaces.Fellows work in capacity building roles and support direct programming, such as developing and enhancing new maker-centered learning programming, partnering with school districts to redesign high school CTE pathways and supporting the development of local communities of practice for faculty and educators.
