The Salvation Army Owens Campus is looking to fill a General Maintenance Worker/Groundskeeper position. The successful candidate for this position will have knowledge of the proper use of cleaning agents/fertilizers, skilled in the use of electrical powered tools and strong time management skills. . This position is benefit eligible and comes with vacation, sick, health, vision, life insurance, and more.

The Maintenance Worker will perform routine and preventative care on tools, equipment and machines. This position will perform lighting, painting, as well as minor carpentry, plumbing and electrical repairs. Other maintenance duties include operation of a forklift and driving a 24ft company truck. Grounds keeping duties will include campus wide trimming and/or removing shrubbery, trees, weeds and flora, repairing irrigation lines, and keeping the property free of trash and litter.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum 3 years of working experience in groundskeeping and maintenance
• Ability to address minor maintenance tasks including painting, carpentry, plumbing and electrical
• Knowledge of the use and proper disposal of chemicals, cleaners, solvents and fertilizers used in groundskeeping
• Skilled in using electrical-powered landscaping tools and gasoline-powered equipment to plant, cultivate and trim horticulture
• Ability to operate a forklift, pallet jack and maintenance tools or willing to be trained
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Strong time management skills including the ability to work with little supervision
• Ability to work in a team setting with other professionals as well as people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances that may be volunteering or completing court-appointed community service hours
• Experience taking projects from beginning through completion
• Must possess a valid Nevada driver’s license and pass a motor vehicle record check
• Must be able to successfully complete a criminal background check

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms on a continuous basis. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to focus. The employee must have the ability to operate a telephone, desktop or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.
