Summary Statement:

The Maintenance Technician provides key support for the Production department and Wastewater treatment facility. They ensure that all equipment is operating effectively and efficiently, including preventative maintenance, overhauls, modification, fabrication, welding, and mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repair. Working knowledge of machine shop equipment, excellent trouble shooting and problem-solving skills. In addition, all Maintenance Technicians are expected to work on any assignment- determined necessary by the Maintenance Manager. Teamwork and coordination are key to this position’s success. They ensure that working environments are safe.

Key Responsibilities:

· Performs preventative maintenance and repairs of production and processing equipment as well as utility related equipment in compliance with all safety procedures.

· Supports the installation of new equipment, support and implementation of preventive maintenance program.

· Assists the machine operators with training or troubleshooting to minimize equipment downtime.

· Trouble-shoots equipment malfunctions and make repairs accordingly.

· Able to perform minor electrical work (i.e. change pump motors and diagnose motor control problems).

· Ensures all repairs are documented.

· Keeps management informed of any maintenance issues.

· Perform work as scheduled on plant project lists and work order items

· Follows all KDI’s good manufacturing practices (GMP) and work in a manner consistent with all corporate regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements.

· Attends required training, including but not limited to Safety, GMP, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP), and Safe Quality Foods (SQF).

· Know and understand OSHA and safety regulations.

· Work schedule includes on call shifts.

· Other duties may be assigned as required.

Certificates & Licenses:

· Must be able to become certified to operate a forklift.

Qualifications, Education and Experience:

· High School Diploma/GED.

· 2 years’ or more in formal mechanical education, certification or equivalent work experience in a manufacturing environment.

· Basic ability to read blueprints, basic welding and fabrication skills.

· Must be able to use plant equipment, forklift, UF, RO, MF, NF membranes systems, HTST, evaporator, CIP systems, separators, lactose concentrator, mechanical tools, welders, and lifts.

Physical Demands & Work Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and communicate with others. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally 50 pounds with assistance. See in the normal visual range with or without correction; vision sufficient to read computer screens and printed documents. Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction. The employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must be able to work in heat and cold/inclement weather.
