CACI is seeking a Low-Light Sensor Engineer for Army Program Executive Office Soldier for our customer at Fort Belvoir, VA. The Principal Low-Light Sensor Engineer will apply knowledge of Visible-Near-Infrared (VNIR) sensor performance versus design to inform trade studies in the support of product development. The engineer will also take ownership of the electro-optical sensor design, optimization, integration, and testing of assigned projects. The engineer will apply best engineering practices in all phases of the development process. This position is a potential hybrid remote opportunity.
What You’ll Get to Do:
Support system-level tradeoff analyses to ensure electro-optical sensors optimally enable overall system requirements
Develop and optimize low-light VNIR sensors for integration in electro-optical systems meeting overall requirements
Perform sensor market surveys
Identify test and measurement methodologies to meet requirements
Perform joint sensor-testing exercises with industry to ensure consistency of measured sensor parameters
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
Solid understanding of geometrical optics: Especially tradeoffs involving focal length, focal ratio, distortion, and depth of field
Solid understanding of information theory and photon-limited statistics: Especially Gaussian vs. Poisson distributions
Familiar with VNIR sensor parameters and testing equipment / procedures: Possesses thorough understanding of the characteristics of thermal (dark) noise vs. amplification noise in low-light VNIR sensors, including image-intensifier (I2) tubes
Ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities to meet deadlines
Exhibits strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Self-starter dedicated to continual improvement
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization
Efficient and highly organized, with great attention to detail
Excellent interpersonal skills, professional presentation, and ability to communicate effectively
U.S. citizen
BS in Physics, Electrical Engineering or similar
10 years of experience in the development, test, and evaluation of electro-optical sensors.
