About the role

The Look Development Artist will be responsible for creating and maintaining the visual appearance of 3D assets for our products Asset Library feature. This includes creating shaders, textures, and lighting to achieve a desired look and feel for the characters, creatures, environments and other assets, as well as grooming hair and fur for the assets that require it. The Look Dev Artist will work closely with the Art Director, Supervisors, Modelers, Animators and Riggers to ensure that the assets meet the technical and aesthetic standards defined by leadership.

Responsibilities

• Work with the Art Director to establish a consistent visual style for the characters
• Applying textures and shaders, working to establish look development in Blender; successfully transitioning modeled and textured assets into look development and handing off to lighting team
• Collaborate with Modelers and Animators to ensure that assets meet technical and aesthetic requirements
• Troubleshoot and fix any issues related to asset appearance
• Continuously improve workflow and techniques for efficient asset creation
• Grooming hair and fur for characters, creatures and other assets
• Collaborating with the animation and rigging teams to ensure smooth integration of the grooming assets
• Optimize work for rendering, ensuring that the final product is rendered efficiently and effectively
• Participates as a team member in determining various design and technical solutions; provides feedback to other team members of the production
  

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge and experience in Blender
• Strong understanding of 3D asset creation and rendering
• Experience in the film, animation or game industry is a big plus
• Linear color pipeline/understanding of colorspaces and global illumination problems and techniques
• Strong artistic ability with a good understanding of form, color and texture, and know how these elements work together
• Understand color, space and the scientific principles behind creating realistic lighting and have a strong knowledge of lighting techniques
• Experience in grooming hair and fur for characters and creatures
• Must be able to work in a collaborative environment, and apply feedback from Supervisors
• Must provide solid lookdev and/or lighting examples with a detailed breakdown
