Job description
We are looking for a dynamic subject matter expert to step into our Import/Export Logistics Manager position with an emphasis on international sales.
Critical Success Factors:
- Serve as an import/export logistics expert liaison and resource for our customers, vendors, carriers and international team members.
- Manage relationships with customs brokers and freight forwarders.
- Effectively provide import/export instructions and oversight, when necessary.
- Serve as the liaison between our international transportation providers and Mainfreight associates, when needed.
- Develop and maintain a central repository for brokerage agreements, POA’s and Continuous Bonds
- Collaborate with various business functions (including colleagues in Legal, Finance/Tax, HR, Supply Chain) to understand business needs and potential import/export process gaps.
- Maintain proper execution of global trade compliance policies and procedures that directly impact import/export logistics.
- Develop, track, and report appropriate Import/Export KPIs.
- Maintain continuous training/coaching for the International/Air & Ocean team.
- Demonstrate exemplary integrity and ethics in all instances.
- Promote a business culture of trade compliance and ethics and conduct other compliance activities.
- Act as the main point of contact for all sales related efforts and communications to strengthen the International/Air & Ocean department.
Experience/Competencies:
- 7-10+ years of experience in import/export logistics in related industry preferred.
- Ability to effectively lead a team and gain trust/buy-in from tenured team members.
- A subject-matter expert in export and/or import compliance.
- Comfort with communicating with U.S. government agencies (Ex. BIS).
- Project management skills necessary to lead projects and drive them to completion effectively and timely.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into simple statements and propose/develop practical business solutions.
- Committed to growth mindset and continuous improvement.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively on legal and compliance issues verbally, and in writing, in a clear and understandable manner.
- Ability to make good decisions based on sound judgement.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision.
- Ability to understand, learn, and use new technology and systems.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
