Job description
This position requires basic knowledge of jr. livestock youth programs, and equestrian programing. Other responsibilities will include coordinating the Washington County Fair’s Animal Education Center, Color Country Natural Resource Camp, Farm Field Days, and volunteer recruitment and management. We welcome candidates with diverse interests and experience related to any variety of these areas.
- Coordinate the development of educational programs for 4-H youth related to livestock (e.g., cattle, sheep, pigs, goats). Educational programs could include but not limited to: nutrition and feeding, disease management, fitting and showmanship, selection, show ethics, record books.
- Oversee the organization of the Washington County Fair’s Animal Education Center and elementary school field trips (e.g., Farm Field Days, Water Fair)
- Coordinate horse and livestock shows, K-9 competitions, and shooting sports programs.
- Serve as camp director for Color Country Natural Resource Camp.
- Build relationships and serve as the principal liaison with local equine and livestock organizations, businesses, and individuals.
- Recruit, train, and manage 4-H volunteers.
- Meet regularly with 4-H volunteer councils to plan events and activities (e.g., shows, competitions, demonstrations, and contests).
- Participate in 4-H In-service and other USU Extension conferences and professional development activities to stay current on industry best practices.
- Regularly maintain an accurate 4-H database of records in ZSsuite and collect evaluation data for impact reporting.
- Promote the 4-H program and its offerings to the community.
- Serve diverse audiences and support the civil rights mandate of Utah State University Extension.
- Facilitate seminars, meetings, and special projects.
- Monitor and administer program revenues and expenses; may develop or participate in the development of funding proposals for the program.
- Collect and analyze data; prepare scheduled and special reports; maintain program records and statistical information.
- Ensure completion of clerical and administrative support tasks, including creation, typing, and editing of program correspondence, purchasing documents, reports, program handbooks, and other publications.
- Write and/or assist with writing grants and proposals as appropriate to the objectives and funding nature of the 4-H youth program; may participate in other fundraising activities.
- May train and direct lower-level staff, student employees, volunteers, and/or graduate students.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field OR an equivalent combination of education plus experience
- Ability to communicate effectively with youth, volunteers, and community stakeholders
- Ability to plan, organize and direct educational programs.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
- Valid driver's license and or access to reliable transportation
- Experience in equine and/or livestock education and management
- Knowledge of 4-H program policies and procedures Skills and experience with recruiting, supervising, and working with volunteers.
- Experience with low income and under-served audiences.
- Experience in working with youth and adults
- Familiar with using social media outlets
- Skills and experience with related organizations/agencies and fostering positive relationships with community stakeholders
