P
osition Summary:
Under direction from management, the Literacy Associate 2 will be responsible for aspects of the English as a Second Language (ESL) Program and Educational Services with Camarillo Public Library’s Adult Literacy Center. This position will also promote Literacy and Educational Programs at community events and other opportunities.

s e ntial Duties/Responsibilities:
An individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.
  • Plan, develop and implement English as a Second Language (ESL) services and programs
  • Lead Camarillo Literacy tutors through training and standards in delivery of literacy initiatives
  • Serves as the system’s ESL expert, including the development and assessment of ESL programs and services
  • Under direction of Literacy Coordinator, conduct outreach activities through a variety of programs and projects
  • Work closely with Librarians and library management to plan, implement and promote ESL programming activities.
  • Work closely with School Districts to provide Library Cards and other ESL services
  • Coordinate public relations and social media presence related to the department with Literacy Coordinator
  • Represent Camarillo Public Library at and participate in state and local literacy-related activities, programs, seminars, workshops and conferences
  • Ability to interact with a diverse population and assist supervisor with additional tasks, as needed
  • Know and understand the American Library Association’s Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library. In addition to these freedoms, support client discretion of materials available at your local library(ies).
  • Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records
  • Other duties as assigned

Q
ualifications:
An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.
  • H.S. Diploma or GED
  • Two years of library experience preferred
  • Basic knowledge of library systems and databases preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Multilingual speaking a plus.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include a combination of days, evenings and weekends


P
hysical Requirements:
  • Must be able to frequently move from place to place within the location; file and retrieve books and other items on high shelves; lift, push/pull, hold/carry of items weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. of heavy boxes, books, and equipment; work in confined spaces; walk; bend; stoop; reach; and climb.
