Job Summary

Venture Partners at CU Boulder invites applications for a Licensing Analyst! This position enhances the revenue realized from Venture Partners portfolio of license agreements, improves licensee compliance, identifies licenses out of compliance, initiates license audits, and collects amounts owed based on audit outcomes. This role also examines critical metrics across the license portfolio and provides regular reports to the Director of Licensing, Managing Director, and other campus partners.

Who We Are

Venture Partners is a key catalyst for innovation with a mission to facilitate the transfer of breakthrough inventions from the University to society through exciting, fast-paced, and multidisciplinary work. We bring together the domains of business, science, and law, working with university researchers and business partners to commercialize new products and form new startup companies. In support of this effort, we provide IP and licensing consultation, startup formation and support, early-stage funding, and more.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

License Compliance

  • Build relationships with licensee companies and encourage regular self-audits.
  • Source and update a roster of firms specializing in license audits and contingency-based patent enforcement.
  • Analyze a portfolio of technology licenses and identify indicators of compliance deficiencies.
  • Conduct cost/benefit assessments for compliance audits and make recommendations to Venture Partners leadership.
  • Coordinate licensee audits.
  • Collaborate with Director or Licensing and Licensing personnel to negotiate audit settlements.
  • Manage select licensing agreements and related technology cases.
  • Analyze and track diligence reports and achievements for compliance.

Licensing Metrics

  • Research peer benchmarking and maintain a database for comparable license agreements and terms.
  • Prepare and deliver quarterly reports including inventions, licenses, and startups by department, by case manager, and compared to prior years’ performance.

  • This is a hybrid position with both on-site and remote work hours.

What We Can Offer

  • The hiring range for this position is $90,000-$100,000 annually.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in business, science, engineering, or a related field.
  • 3 years of experience in business development, startups, finance, licensing, or tech transfer.

What You Will Need

  • Experience negotiating settlements and/or coordinating patent infringement suits.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Experience with audits.
  • License negotiation and management experience.
  • Advanced degree in business, science or engineering, or a related field.
