As a Licensed Environmental Professional, you will be in charge of managing the Environmental Services department and supporting a multidisciplinary firm through out the process of different environmental tasks associated with current projects. Supporting Civil Engineering, Geotechnical, Land Surveying, Transportation and Landscape Architecture departments you will be a key member in the contribution of creative design elements and responsible for keeping with current standard and environmental issues.

You will be required to make independent decisions on environmental issues and methods based upon practical experience and delivering quality results with a profitable solution. Related responsibilities will include recruiting, mentoring, managing projects, and managing employees; and, establish project utilizations, financial controls, quality control, and setting deliverable standards of work, ensuring that the department reaches its goals and objectives related to productivity, profitability and industry penetration, among other areas.

You may be required to work in office or on site. Your office work will include scheduling field crews, supervising field crews, preparing environmental reports and maps, and other functions required to efficiently run an environmental department.

A Connecticut Licensed Environmental Professional (LEP) license, a driver’s license and an OSHA 40-hour certification will be required for this position. You will be required to perform project research, take and review soil, water and air samples, and make accurate recommendations to the environmental conditions of our project site and buildings.

Management Responsibilities

Performs duties to manage overall operation of environmental department;

  • Communicate with team members, client representatives, review agencies and others as appropriate to the project;
  • Visits project sites to review conditions as appropriate;
  • Manages internal project budget control and manage change orders with client;
  • Obtaining signed contracts from the client;
  • Review of pre-bills, management of holds, write-offs and assist in collection of payment from client;
  • Reviews work performed by field crews, including record research, environmental notes and computations and other historical records.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental due diligence investigations such as Phase 1 ESA, Phase 2 ESA, Phase 3 ESA, remedial action plans and soil management plans;
  • Experience with remedial design, demolition oversight, specification writing and permitting;
  • Coordinate the preparation of project drawings, exhibits, and calculations with engineers and environmental scientists, designers and technicians;
  • Manage time effectively, organize and work on multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlines and client needs.

Team Development/Leadership

  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality;
  • Establish and monitor staff’s performances and development goals, assign accountabilities, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals, and administer salary adjustments;
  • Mentor and develop staffs using a supportive and collaborative approach;

Operations

  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organizations;
  • Meets weekly with department heads to discuss project activities, schedule, deliverables, operations and problems;
  • Explore opportunities to add value to the company and job accomplishments;
  • Guide project delivery so that company policies and procedures, standards and quality assurance are adhered to;
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of the status of every project.

Client Relationships

  • Proactively build and sustain relationships with targeted clients;

Job Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience in Environmental Engineering
  • QA/QC experience in design
  • OSHA- 40 hour & LEP certification is required
  • EIT/PE a plus
