Job description
The Guidance Center welcomes applications for one full-time licensed psychologist position. The licensed child psychologist will expand the integrated mental and behavioral health services for children, adolescents, and families that are served by the Miller Children’s and Women’s Hospital Endocrine, Neurology, and Pulmonary outpatient specialty centers. The child psychologist will work collaboratively with a team of providers at MCWH (e.g., nurses, sub-specialists, social workers, care associates) to provide brief mental health assessment and evidence-based care – including co-treatment with other disciplines - for a youth population with chronic illness (e.g. Diabetes, Cystic Fibrosis, Epilepsy) and co-morbid mental health concerns. Importantly, the psychologist will also have an active role in developing a sustainable psychology service workflow in the above-mentioned clinics.
While direct patient care and program development are the core job functions, the position also includes supervising a postdoctoral fellow and other psychology trainees as necessary who are providing clinical services in these clinics, teaching pediatric residents through the MCWH residency training program, and providing requested educational lectures for interdisciplinary teams about topics in pediatric/child psychology. Research is not an explicit component of the position; however, the psychologist will be responsible for helping to develop and implement meaningful outcome measures for the patients served.
The Whole Child program is a collaborative pediatric psychology program between The Guidance Center (TGC) and Miller Children’s and Women’s Hospital (MCWH) that has a particular focus on bringing specialized pediatric psychology services to marginalized youth and their families across the full continuum of care. The Whole Child Program is currently comprised of Licensed Psychologists, postdoctoral fellows, and rotating predoctoral psychology interns completing their APA-Accredited Internship at The Guidance Center. The Guidance Center’s collaboration with Miller Children’s and Women’s Hospital is long-standing, and TGC pediatric psychology providers embedded at MCWH serve as integral and respected members of diverse and collaborative interdisciplinary teams.
The current position is made possible by a 2-year grant. We would like this position to be self-sustaining at the end of the grant period, and therefore the position could extend beyond the currently funded 2 years.
