The City of Pasadena is currently seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and team-orientated Part-Time Library Assistant (20 hrs/week) who will provide excellent customer service and promote a positive library experience to all users and visitors in our City's libraries.
The current vacancy is in our Public Services Division of our Libraries and Information Services Department, which provides first-class customer service to Library patrons and assists with various inquiries regarding our circulation policies.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will have a strong customer service background with experience working in libraries, preferably in a public library setting. This person will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong problem-solving skills, boundless energy, as well as a strong work ethic.

Performs circulation-related tasks including check–in and check-out of materials.- Assists patrons in locating information or materials.
- Assists with library programming for all ages.
- Prepares exhibits, crafts, and training materials under the guidance of senior staff.
- Promotes and imparts information about library programs, services, and policies.
- Assists patrons using a wide variety of library resources, automated indices, photocopiers, printers, PC's, and other technology.
- Handles customer financial transactions using the City's Tyler Munis cashiering system.
- Operates a variety of equipment, including PC's, uses Word, Excel, the Internet, and the Integrated Library System, files, checks, maintains and retrieves information and records.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships and interacts effectively with staff at all levels of the organization.
- Provides support to professional and management personnel and performs other job-related work as required.
- Exercises independent judgment and procedural knowledge in performing work within standard operating parameters/guidelines.
- Participates in the implementation of department policies and procedures.
- May work on projects with senior staff; establishes and maintains files, both paper and electronic.
- May prepare documents and compose correspondence from general instruction.

VACANCY INFORMATION
There are currently three part-time vacancies in the Public Services Division of the Libraries and Information Services Department. The resulting eligibility list from this recruitment may be used to fill these vacancies and similar vacancies in the future. Candidates selected for these positions are subject to a one year probationary work period.
Must possess a valid California Class C driver's license and comply with the City's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy during the course of employment.
As of September 3, 2021, anyone hired with the City of Pasadena must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before starting work. The City encourages applicants to get a free vaccination at a place of their choice or at walk-in clinics in Pasadena. A candidate’s vaccination status will be reviewed as part of the post-offer pre-employment physical examination. Exemptions to the mandatory vaccination policy may be available for a medical, disability, or sincerely held religious belief.
Effective January 1, 2013, new members to CalPERS or an agency with CALPERS' reciprocity or who have more than a six month break in service between employment in a CalPERS (or reciprocal) agency will be subject to the provisions of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) and will receive the 2% @ 62 benefit formula.
Employees who are current members of CalPERS or an agency with CalPERS' reciprocity, or who have less than a six month break in service between employment in a CalPERS (or reciprocal) agency and employment with the City will be enrolled in the 2.5% @ 55 benefit formula.
All employees are required to pay the full employee contribution to CalPERS.
