SCHOOL WATER LEAD TESTING SPECIALIST

Under the direct supervision of the School Water Lead Reduction Project Manager, the School Water Lead Testing Specialist will serve as the field team leader of assistance services to reduce lead concentration in drinking water at Tribal schools and Tribal child care centers located in Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, and the Navajo Nation. The position requires monthly travel, which may sometimes require irregular work hours. Timely and regular attendance to work and events is an essential function of this position.

Duties and Responsibilities: This list is not all inclusive of the duties and responsibilities and/or skills, knowledge, and abilities of this position.

· Assist Project Manager with developing relationships with Tribal Education Agencies (TEAs), implementing a 3Ts (training, testing, taking action) public awareness campaign, and soliciting project services.

· Oversee & document sampling events at each participating Tribal Education Agency facility.

· Meet with Tribal Contacts prior to walk-through and sampling event.

· Generate field log book for each facility, document field activities including any changes to procedures outlined in the Sampling Plan or QAPP.

· Ensure proper completion of the Plumbing Profile Form for each participating TEA facility.

· Oversight of completion of the Water Fixture Detail report and the Pre-Sampling Water Use Certification report.

Knowledge/Skills and Abilities

· Must have or develop extensive knowledge of the USEPA 3Ts for Reducing Lead in Drinking Water in Schools and Child Care Facilities guidance documents and tools.

· Knowledgeable of Tribal, State and Federal government agencies and their processes.

· Knowledge of Federal environmental legislation and regulations and how the legislation applies to Indian Tribes, specific to drinking water quality.

· Proficient use and ability to operate various computer hardware, systems, software and programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.

· Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking, report writing, teaching and facilitation skills.

· Must travel extensively, for up to six (6) days in a week.

Education Requirements and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Environmental Science, Environmental Health or related field plus 1 year of experience or a combination of education or experience that is equivalent. Valid driver’s license and submit to a background check.
