QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must be a minimum of 21 years old.
· Two years’ experience in the fitness industry that includes knowledge of machine weights, free weights and cardio equipment.
· Ability to express & share in-depth knowledge base on the form & function of each piece of equipment & its proper use.
· Certified Instructor (ACE, NASM, ACSM, and NSCA) or equivalent college degree strongly preferred.
· Maintain fitness format accreditations.
· Knowledge of Microsoft Office software preferred.
· Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
· Must have or be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certification within first 30 days of employment.
· Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department as well as The Salvation Army.
· Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of the gymnasium and athletic field programs.
· Have a philosophy of education and child development which is consistent with that of the Kroc Center and The Salvation Army.
· Have the ability to work with children, parents, and staff in a capacity of leadership, counseling, and education including but not limited to:
o Ability to relate joyfully and sensitively to children of all ages.
o Sensitivity to children’s individual needs.
o Ability to use appropriate positive discipline consistently.
o Dependability.
o Ability to handle security and crisis situations calmly.
o Ability to seek supervision and use it consistently.
· Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem-solving.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Maintain cleanliness of facility by cleaning equipment and training areas, vacuuming and sweeping.
· Offer regular weight room orientation/instructional sessions to the members at various times throughout the day to adequately respond to the novice lifter.
· Verifying membership status through the CCMS system.
· Ability to move about fitness area insuring proper usage by members and guests.
· Ensure the safe use of the facility by enforcement of facility regulations and ensuring that authorized patrons use the facility.
· Provide information and answer questions about available programs.
· Report all equipment and fitness area problems to the Fitness Coordinator. Will notify members and staff when machines are out of working order or in need of repair.
· Enforce all rules that pertain to the fitness and exercise room and facility on a constant basis.
· Ability to work with volunteers on a professional level.
· Ability to assist in any emergencies or accidents.
· Handle disputes with participants and students in a professional manner.
· Maintain a safe working environment; report all harmful problems with facilities to the proper supervisor.
· Maintain clear channels of communication with staff, volunteers and program participants. This may include writing of internal memos, weekly department meetings, work schedules, flyers, newsletters and one on one discussion with Fitness Coordinator.
· Update and add programs into CCMS/RMS.
· Must have the ability to instruct with proficiency and step in as an Instructor when needed.
· Experience leading various groups of people with different fitness abilities.
· Must be able to design high-quality, up-to-date, scientifically sound, safe and effective Group Fitness Classes for a variety of student ability levels.
· Must uphold the scope and practice of fitness professionals.
· Demonstrate positive team leadership capabilities and supervision skills.
· Must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision.
· Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
· Maintain the Code of Ethics policy, which has been established for the Kroc Center.
· Perform other assignments/duties as they relate to the position of Lead Fitness Attendant.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and reach with hands and arms on a continuous basis. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Must have ability to operate telephone, a desktop or laptop computer, as well as the ability to access and produce information from a computer, and to understand written information.
