Performs maintenance and repair of college vehicles and maintenance equipment; drives fleet vehicles, including highway
buses.

Responsibilities:

  • Fuel vehicle and record fuel used. Perform routine maintenance check of vehicle including oil, lights, battery, fan belt, brakes, wheels, and tire pressure.
  • Clean interior and exterior of vehicle to include seats and windows.
  • Check vehicles and record any damages.
  • Provide preventive maintenance on automobiles, light and heavy trucks, tractors, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Perform diagnostics and repairs to all automotive systems including but not limited to brake, electrical, steering, and powertrain systems.
  • Perform emission control systems repairs.
  • Use diagnostic equipment as an aid to locate vehicle defects; road test vehicles to locate operational defects prior to returning vehicles to active use.
  • Complete appropriate paperwork related to vehicle repair.
  • Maintain qualifications and drive vehicles for college field trips.
  • Complete all driver forms for trips including Department of Transportation forms.
  • Maintain vehicle reservation schedule during supervisors absence.
  • Coordinate with supervisor to maintain Department of Transportation driver files.
  • Schedule and perform annual and monthly service of college fleet vehicles.
  • Maintain vehicle maintenance records.
  • Oversee daily operations of Transportation Department during supervisors absence.

Required Qualifications:
High school graduate or GED plus a minimum of two years of experience as a service technician in the automotive/diesel field or equivalent vocational training in the automotive/diesel field. Must be 21 years of age, possess and maintain a valid drivers license and a driving record that is insurable by Colorado Colleges motor vehicle insurance carrier. Must pass DOT pre-employment drug screen and ability to obtain DOT medical certification. Ability to obtain Class B commercial drivers license with air brake restriction removed, and passenger endorsement; ability to perform constant standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, and/or crouching; reaching and twisting; ability to occasionally move or lift objects weighting in excess of 50 pounds; knowledge of and ability to use a personal computer; excellent interpersonal skills; ability to communicate effectively and develop positive relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:
Vocational degree in automotive technology or five years of equivalent experience; Class B commercial drivers license with air brake and passenger endorsement, current DOT medical certificate, previous passenger bus driving experience; previous supervisory experience; training in Department of Transportation regulations and recordkeeping requirements.
