Job description
About Everplans:
We're a New York City-based technology company recently acquired by National Guardian Life Insurance Company (NGL) that helps people organize, share, and keep critical information, wishes, and documents they need, and that their family may need, up-to-date and at their fingertips. Through a combination of original content, a personalized guidance engine, and an intuitive digital vault, people can say goodbye to sticky notes around the computer, old file folders underneath the bed, and out-of-date paperwork.
Everplans is sold both direct-to-consumer as well as through financial professionals to their clients, insurance and financial services organizations to their policyholders and customers, and as a benefit employers offer their employees.
About the Position:
We want to make actionable, data-driven insights easily accessible to every employee at Everplans. We are looking for a disciplined lead to help us evolve our data practice into one that will profoundly inform key strategic decisions, measure the success of our goals, and make data points more easily accessible to the team as a whole. You will report to the CTO and work directly with the data-engineering team. You will own the data-dictionary, be a key stakeholder in our data governance policy, and inform the narrative around data.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years experience data analysis, interfacing across departments, with the ability to synthesize and clarify requirements.
- Experience directing data engineering tasks.
- Experience creating policies and procedures for data correctness and accuracy (Data Governance).
- Business analysis skills.
- Basic query skills.
- Experience working with BI tools or visualization platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Provide the strategy and direction for the company’s many data needs.
- Own the Data Dictionary, and be the key source of truth of where data lives, which data should be used, and what data is sanctioned for correctness and wide use.
- Create and support processes which ensure clean and correct data are used for analysis.
- Develop a nuanced understanding of how our product works, and how users engage with it.
- Collaborate with the Technology and Product departments to ensure that we record sufficient data accurately and consistently.
- Work directly with business stakeholders to derive data points which inform our understanding of user behavior, core business performance, and other insights.
- Create best-practice reports based on data analysis and visualization needs.
- Create and maintain rich visualizations and key company wide dashboards that measure success for OKR goals, and uncover user trends that inform product market fit.
- Evaluate and leverage tools both for data-analysis, and visualization for business users in the organization.
- Supervise and formulate requirements for data-engineering as well as the ongoing development of our data warehouse.
- Manage 1-2 direct reports.
You Possess:
- A disciplined and impassioned approach to data, letting data speak for itself even if it can challenge currently perceived notions.
- Experience supporting more junior colleagues, helping them to grow in their careers and responsibilities.
- A belief in our mission, and a passion to make an impact in our users’ lives.
- An ability to take unstructured input from various business stakeholders and determine how to best gather needed data.
- The experience to synthesize robust metrics and visualizations.
- A collaborative approach to working with your colleagues and are someone who enjoys socializing their ideas with peers.
- An interest in improving the team at large and helping your colleagues succeed.
- An outcome-oriented mindset.
- Curiosity and joy for technology and are able to adapt as trends and needs change.
Bonus Points:
- Experience with Python/Jupyter Notebooks.
- Experience with Looker.
- Practical experience in statistical analysis.
While we have offices in the Flatiron district of NYC, we have actively evolved our practices to embrace a remote-first company culture.
