Job Purpose
A Lead Custodian is responsible for leading and coordinating the work of all Custodian positions in cleaning the inside of buildings and other facilities at any Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) locations, performing minor maintenance and moving furniture and office/classroom equipment; ensures that assigned duties are completed on schedule and are done well within the area assigned; schedules project work and work order requests; responsible for supply needs of the area assigned; may be responsible for inventory control of all supplies and equipment; may perform as a Custodian during an absence; does related work as required. Work is performed independently according to established procedures, instructions as to scope of work and priorities are provided by the Custodial Manager. The Lead is responsible for daily operations with the manager available to consult on problems and policy decisions.
Position Description
- Serves as a supervisor on duty when the Custodial Manager is not on shift.
- Assist in checking & cleaning assigned facilities, classrooms, offices, restrooms, common areas, gym halls, etc.
- Drives company vehicles on campus to move; equipment, supplies, recyclables, trash and to refuel fleet.
- Restocks dispensers, pulls trash and recycling materials daily.
- Provides coverage and the clean-up of facilities for, classes, conferences, and events.
- Knowledge of cleaning; procedures, chemicals, supplies, and equipment used for floor care and custodial work.
- Ability to read and understand written directions for the mixing, dilutions, and use of hazardous chemicals
- Ability to be on time for assigned schedule, on call 24/7 for emergencies and work holidays if needed.
- Ability to work well with others, with minimal supervision and overnight in buildings by yourself.
- Ability to adjust schedule, respond and complete task for different types of customer service request.
- Perform light maintenance work such as replacing light bulbs, furniture moves, event set ups, hanging white boards, etc.
- Ability to work irregular hours or to rotate shifts. Under the supervision of the custodial manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Custodial Manager.
Minimum Qualifications and/or Education
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Two (2) years of experience performing the full range of custodial duties including the operation of hand and power equipment, the safe and proper mixing/ applying of cleaning chemicals.
- Six (6) or more months of Microsoft Office suite and computer skills
- Must have a valid driver's license and a clear motor vehicle record.
- Associates or higher degree in related field.
- Experience working in higher education.
- Supervisory work involving the assignment and direct supervision of custodial staff.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as the ability to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to focus. This position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff.
Work Schedule
Must be able to work a variable schedule/hour to meet operational needs. Sunday 6:00AM – 2:30PM, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 9:00PM-5:30AM.
