The CI Leader shapes, drives and supports the implementation of the regional CI strategy linked to the Global OSCO (Operations & Supply Chain organization) ambition of Barry Callebaut aiming at G4Zero together (Go for Zero on Safety Incidents, Quality or Service Issues and Sustainability Impact).
The Continuous Improvement Lead will manage one or more work streams/departments within the Continuous Improvement (CI) implementation at the site. This person is responsible for the implementation of the methodology for various departments and will identify and quantify opportunities within the functional area, supporting the site in deploying the CI ways of working by enhancing the competences of the team in the area of continuous improvement tools and methods like 5S, teamboards and collaborative problem solving techniques.
They will plan for and coordinate the execution of the deliverables and tracks and reports on the progress realized by the department/works team in terms of installed deliverables, behavior of members of the department and organizational results. This person will train, coach and support all levels of the assigned department in implementing the new way of working and act as change manager to deal with change management issues within the borders of the department. They will work closely with the manager of the department and keep close reporting lines to the regional CI manager. They will be a mentor for the facilitators in the team and lead by example for both CI members and facility employees.
Key responsibilities include:
- Identify and quantify the opportunities within the functional area, plan for and coordinate on the execution of the deliverables and tracks and report on the progress realized by the department/work stream, in terms of installed deliverables, behavior of members of the department and operational results.
- Define a business case for a department, be able to specify the detailed planning in function of the findings and site specifics, organize and coordinate the team members from the site so that actions and deliverables are realized. Has a full understanding of the Continuous improvement methodology, the tools and techniques, to ensure objectives of the departments get met.
- Daily coaching, training and support of all levels of the functional department (manager, supervisor(s), operators). Implementing the new way of working and acting as change manager to deal with change management issues within the borders of the department.
- Work in peer with the manager of the department and keep close reporting lines to the regional CI manager.
- Master the Barry Callebaut methodology in Continuous Improvement (One+).
- Be chairman in most types of meetings, being able to demonstrate effective meetings, workshops, performance and project status meetings (different types of meetings require different types of approaches: brainstorm, deep dive, coordinator, report).
- On a systematic basis, steer the change and progress of the department. Seek support from the regional CI manager when needed including active steering and follow-up of the work stream members in their activities and results.
- Assist the regional CI Manager in the development of the CI Facilitators and the site CI Coordinators in order to develop these people, systematically increase their exposure in the execution of the methodology towards the site members, to increase better results, faster in time (Development is also necessary to further grow our regional CI capabilities and capacity, either to accelerate within the region, either to support other regions).
- In close collaboration with the Regional CI Manager, work out best practices realized within the own team, to share with our teams in other regions. Take ownership of the best practices realized within the assigned work stream/department.
- Show exemplary behavior towards their own team members but especially towards the members from the site. Show discipline and consistency in applying the methodology to deal with performance issues and to develop improvements.
- Build reports within the project team as well as to prepare department managers to report at steering committee level.
About you:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and/or Management (Master’s Degree Plus)
- You have at least 5 years experience working in an industrial cocoa processing environment or similar operations with in depth knowledge of process control, asset management, cost structures, digitalization
- You are a strong leader in cultural change and operational transformation and master the ability to make visual layers in the organization being a role model when it comes to CI culture and Gemba centricity and have experience with facilitating Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
- You have deep knowledge of lean manufacturing, six sigma methodologies and quality management and process capability management
- You have strong analytical skills and very familiar with lean tools like 5S, RCA, FMEA, Visual Management, process control tools, Excel, Minitab, and other supporting system as well as being proficient in PowerPoint and visualization/presentation techniques
- You have implemented shop floor initiatives in the past, collaborating with plant, including shop floor staff in quality circles or similar approaches
