Job description
- Performs legal research, analysis, and writing.
- Researches and analyzes complex issues and questions arising during trial and motion procedures in Superior Court.
- Searches and reads records on file; conducts research of all pertinent legal issues for upcoming motion hearings and trials.
- Evaluates cases and writes memoranda for the judge; drafts final orders and other legal documents for judge's review; assists in drafting opinions.
- Evaluates and responds to correspondence from litigants and inmates.
- Schedules court appearances; attends court.
- Participates in continuing education to stay current in law.
- Maintains the law library by updating code, appellate opinions, and research material.
- Answers telephone calls and admits visitors to the office as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of state laws and guidelines governing Superior and State Courts.
- Skill in conducting complex legal research.
- Skill in problem solving, organization, analysis, and writing.
- Skill in the operation of computers, software, and standard office equipment.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
Juris doctorate degree and one (1) year of experience practicing law is preferred. Successful applicant must pass the Georgia Bar Examination not later than six months after commencing duties. The application examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience, accomplished by analysis of the application. The application must document that the applicant possesses the minimum knowledge, skills, education, and experience as listed to be rated as qualified. If selected, an official, accredited college and law school transcript are required, at the time of employment for all degrees/course work used to qualify for this position.
