The Last Mile Fellowship

How you’ll make an impact:

As a fellow you will learn the ins and outs of radio production both from the technical & producing side. You will learn how to operate a soundboard, use audio editing software, participate in live radio shows & pre-records along with preparing materials for upcoming shows & booking guests. This program will prepare you for a role in the radio industry in a behind the scenes role.

What you’ll do:

• Run the audio board for various live and taped programs and edit audio for on-air use.

• Ensure studio sound equipment is functioning properly during programs.

• Ensure that on-air product is up to broadcast standards before it leaves the studios.

• Work with producers and talent on following programming clocks to ensure that all content and advertisements are aired as planned.

• Work with Talent and Executive Producer on daily preparation of morning show before show and assistance during live broadcasts.

• Implement daily tasks assigned from the Producer and Talent to meet broadcast deadlines.

• Edit sound and create produced/packaged elements for daily broadcast.

• Use social media to promote the show before, during, and after it airs.

• Work with Producers to create / edit "Best of..." programs from archives of past shows for weekend or special re-broadcasting needs.

• Studio booking and interfacility booking duties as needed.

• Bank and screen phone calls as needed.

• Choose sound effects and music to enhance program image.

• Coordinate the appropriate mix of music and sound for assigned shows, and ensure that levels are mixed properly.

• Provide cues and support to talent to facilitate program continuity.

• Screen incoming calls and selectively chooses callers to go on-air for the purpose of enhancing program content.

• Work with producers to create / edit "Best of..." programs from archives of past shows for weekend or special re-broadcasting needs.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

What you’ll need:

• Be an alumni of The Last Mile program audio/video program.

• Experience working in live radio.

• Comfortable working with talent, artists, and other high profile individuals.

• Ability to work with off-site (“remote”) talent – communicating mostly via email/Zoom/phone.

• Interpersonal skills and ability to interact and work with staff at all levels.

• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

• Ability to pay attention to details and be organized.

• Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

• Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multitask, and work under shifting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Experience with broadcast operation software (Zetta, Prophet, AudioVault, Dalet, etc), and familiarity with digital audio editing software (ProTools, Audition, SoundForge, etc).

• Thorough knowledge of MS-Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).

• Operating studio sound equipment.

• Must have legal right to work in the U.S.

Fellowship Details: The fellowship will run for 6 months, beginning in August 2022. It is a part-time hybrid position based out of our Los Angeles office.
