LAB TECHNICIAN / UTILITY DETAILS :
Boxley Materials has an exciting opportunity for a Lab Technician / Utility to join our team. This is a vital role within our Aggregate division of business, located in the greater Roanoke, Salem, and Lynchburg – Virginia markets. This position is looking for a quality minded, safety-oriented Lab Technician / Utility to be responsible for taking samples of all aggregate products and Equipment Operation within the plant .

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES FOR OUR LAB TECHNICIAN / UTILITY :

• Taking samples of all products produced every day, and running all applicable laboratory test such as gradation, moisture content, dust of fracture, and Liquid limit.

• Notifying the plant operator and plant manager of failing samples.
• Loading Lab test results into computer database
• Maintaining cleanliness of lab and all materials
• Responsible for operation of heavy equipment (Frontend Loaders, Water Truck, Skid Steer, and Hydraulic Rock Breaker)

• Assisting with Plant and stationary maintenance
• Responsible for shoveling cat walks daily
• Responsible for greasing of plant on a weekly basis
• Additional duties assigned by leadership.
• Must comply with all Federal, State, and Corporate policies

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF LAB TECHNICIAN /UTILITY :

• Frequent standing, walking, sitting, squatting, and/or kneeling
• Lifting up to 80lbs
• Stationary positioning for long periods of time.
• Vision requirements for this position include distance vision, close vision, depth perception and color discrimination.
• Perform repetitive and continuous functions
• Sit or stand for long periods of time.
• Occasional kneeling, stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, reaching, and squatting

REQUIREMENTS :

• Ability to perform responsibilities and objectives successfully and safely.
• Previous lab experience with aggregate product
• Previous experience in heavy equipment operation is a plus.
• Ability and willingness to work outside daily / year-round.
• Read, comprehend, and write the English language.
• Ability to respond quickly to hazards and safety concerns.
• Must be able to become certified by the State of Virginia VDOT Lab School
• Must be willing to travel to other Boxley plants for work

WHAT WILL PUT YOU AHEAD :

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience as a Lab Technician
• Previous experience as an Equipment Operator
