Position Summary: To oversee and implement lab protocols for Valley-Wide Health Systems, Inc. system of care. This encompasses all VWHS facilities conduction lab services. Assists in developing, implementing, and assisting in the enforcement of safety guidelines, policies and procedures to assure compliance with accrediting bodies and provide supporting data for quality assurance. Must foster a culture of patient and family centered care, service, quality and safety excellence, while improving patient experience, employee experience and community relations.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Establish and updates laboratory policies and procedures.
- Responsible for education on all CLIA testing controls for all nursing/ MA staff.
- Lab skills and quality control evaluation on all nursing staff upon hire, at 3 months and annually.
- Order API proficiency testing for Provider Performed Microscopy annually.
- Coordinates and implements new projects assisting with policies and procedures development/revision (Point of care testing (POC), sterilization, evidence-based education
- Prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports as requested
- Data collected, analyzed with guidelines initiated as appropriate
- Update and maintain the lab manual ensuring current information is uploaded to the online manual.
- Complete POC quality controls on new shipments of testing supplies
- Attend Clinician Lab Committee meetings with agenda participation
- Collaborates with purchasing staff and Infection Control on cost effective tools best used in the clinical setting impacting patient care and outcomes
- Works closely with Infection Control on lab protocols, standards and CLIA requirements
- Other duties as assigned
2. Provide staff education and support
- Travel to all clinical sites on regular basis
- Shadows new hires in the clinic at 3-months to assess competency
- Train all new hires on the lab manual, sterilization procedures, spore testing, point of care tests and controls.
- Lab e-learning, tracking completion/Health Stream
- Coordinate staff training to ensure compliance with CLIA, NPSG AAAHC
Knowledge, skill and ability:
- Intermediate level computer skills, specifically Microsoft office applications
- Basic knowledge of electronic health records
- Two years experience working in health care
- Knowledge of basic safety standards, OSHA and sterilization
Education and Formal Training:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
Experience:
- Two years of experience working in health care

Working Conditions and Physical Environment:
Job duties are performed in a generally clinic environment, may require more than the usual physical effort in the office (e.g., lifting small boxes or equipment), or prolonged movement (e.g., standing).
Blood/Fluid Exposure Risk:
X Category I: Tasks routinely involve a potential for mucous membrane or skin contact exposure to blood, fluids or tissue. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), when appropriate, is required.
