Job Summary: An assistant cook provides support to Assistant Director. This role works under the direct supervision of the Culinary Director. Cook assistants perform a variety of cooking duties, including preparing food, cleaning the kitchen, plating dishes, and maintaining supplies. Individuals in this role should have excellent communication skills and a focus on prompt, efficient, and courteous service. Cook assistants thrive in high-pressure environments and enjoy being busy. Hours will vary based on the employer, and on-the-job training is typically offered. We offer a good benefit package and you start to accrue sick and vacation time, day one if full time. Accrue 96.2 hours sick and 80.6 hours vacation that roll over to the next year if not used.

Qualifications:

1. High school degree or GED

2. Serve Safe or Food Safety Certification preferred

3. Previous experience preferred

4. Cook assistants should have a passion for food and strong attention to detail. The ideal candidate for this role works well with different personality types, enjoys helping others, and upholds a strong sense of cleanliness and organization.

Prefer candidates who possess the following abilities:

(1) Communication skills – cook assistants interact with many people, including the Shift Supervisor Cook, food vendors, facility patients and the employees. It is important to be a detailed communicator in order for meal service to run smoothly

(2) Attention to detail – most cook assistants work in high-volume, fast-paced environments. It is important to be able to perform well under pressure and multitask while paying close attention to details

(3) Flexibility – cook assistants may perform different tasks depending on the day. If the facility is very busy, for example, they may take charge with cooking to help the Supervising Cook to accommodate the needs of the patients and the facility employees.

Pay: $10.00 - $13.00 per hour
