Summary: This position will perform electrical distribution line construction and maintenance work; rebuilding, improving and maintaining lines and equipment. Work will be performed on energized and non-energized lines up to an including 14.4 / 24.9V. This position teaches job skills and safety to personnel in the Operations Dept. and may direct crews when required as a Journey Line Worker.
Journey Line Worker Primary Responsibilities: Able to perform energized workup to 25kV and be familiar with proper safety and work procedures, including required PPE. Manage daily operations of service-related jobs and the coordination of the same. Able to climb poles efficiently. Adhere to maintenance plan to include preventative maintenance (PM) of oil filled equipment, primary meters, and the general condition of the system to improve reliability. Installs, replaces, or retires poles, cross-arms, insulators; repairs conductors; and replaces or repairs other equipment or materials as necessary. Installs, replaces or retires transformers, oil circuit reclosers, capacitors, voltage regulators, switches, and other related equipment. Journey Line Worker patrols distribution lines, performs maintenance inspections, and prepares all necessary paperwork such as drawing staking sheets, patrol and maintenance reports, etc. Repairs outages when notified and reports to the Line Superintendent or others on duty for NEC when severe weather warnings occur. Journey Line Worker performs other related duties, as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 3-5 years of experience as a Journey Line Worker with experience in construction and maintenance of electric distribution system
- Class A Commercial Drivers' License (CDL)
- Department of Labor (DOL) Certification or must be willing to pursue by completion of refresher course
- CPR and First Aid Certifications
- Must have expert climbing skills
- Must be available to work nights and weekends
- Must be able to perform work during extreme weather situations (heat/rain/storm/cold, etc.)
- Must reside within 30 minutes from assigned office
Preferred Requirements:
- Department of Labor (DOL) Certification
- Eight (8) Years' experience in Journey Line Work
- Ability to utilize web-based performance management, time tracking systems, email software such as MS outlook, internet software, word processing software such as MS Word and can use customer information systems and utility specific work and service order applications.
