POSITION TITLE: Janitor and Meal Program Facilitator
STATUS: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

REQUIREMENTS:
- A self-starter who can organize his or her time effectively
- Working knowledge of The Salvation Army mission or willingness to learn it
- An understanding and acceptance of The Salvation Army’s mission, philosophy, and practices
- Able to work within the organization and carry out its policies and procedures
- Very good people skills and a friendly demeanor
- A valid driver’s license with no record of DUI or DWI offense
- Clean criminal background check
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Janitor Responsibilities:
- Keep the facilities clean and organized, including but not limited to vacuuming, cleaning bathrooms, emptying trash, washing windows, cleaning and organizing storage areas, dusting, washing floors, cleaning carpets, and cleaning tables, chairs, and other furnishings as necessary.
- Keep corps vehicles clean and ready for use, including taking them in for regular oil changes, monitoring the state of the brakes and tires, washing the exteriors, cleaning and vacuuming the interiors, and keeping gas in the tanks; maintain a monthly log of beginning and ending mileage for each corps vehicle for captains’ monthly DHQ report.
- Set up tables, chairs, and other items in preparation for programs that are being held on The Salvation Army Eastside Corps premises.
- Maintain the facility’s exterior, including landscaping, lawn, parking lot, and walkways.
Maintenance Responsibilities:
- Perform all phases of building maintenance necessary to keep a safe environment for employees and all others using the facilities including but not limited to:
- Maintaining walkways, to ensure safety and usefulness
- Painting interior and exterior of building
- Repair broken water lines, etc
- Arrange for contracted maintenance when needed
Driver Responsibilities:
- Pick up and take home participants for corps programs during the week.
- Pick up donations and supplies for various programs and corps maintenance, as necessary.
- Assist in picking up and delivering toys and other donations during the Christmas season.
- Assist in driving kettle workers to and from assigned locations during the Christmas Kettle program.
- Assist Corps Officer and Kettle Coordinator with setting up kettle stands before the kettle season and picking up kettles after the close of the season, and other duties as assigned.
- Assist with the clean up and storage of kettle supplies and undistributed toys.
- Driver duties will vary during the Christmas season, and some responsibilities will be temporarily reassigned to other personnel to allow maximum hours for the kettle program responsibilities.
Meal Program Facilitator Responsibilities:
- Prepare fellowship hall for the weeknight meal program.
- Greet volunteers who provide and serve the meals, and assist with the set-up, serving, and cleanup as requested by the volunteers.
- Greet and count participants as they arrive.
- Monitor participants to ensure rules are followed.
- Wipe tables and chairs, and vacuum carpets, after each meal.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, kneel and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
- Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to operate telephone
- Ability to operate a desktop computer, including ability to access and produce information from a computer
- Ability to understand, use and respond to written information
