POSITION TITLE: IT Systems Specialist

REPORTS TO: Director of Technology

ANTICIPATED SALARY RANGE: $65K-$75K


SUMMARY

The IT Systems Specialist (ITSS) reports to the Director of Technology and will work alongside

Technology Department team members in providing support, responding to queries,

documenting changes, and assisting with testing, assessment, diagnosis and resolution of

network service outages and incidents. Under the supervision of the Director of Technology,

the ITSS maintains network systems and may configure devices, enable services or respond to

end user requests for network status information. The ITSS participates in informal and formal

network learning opportunities and may travel on an as needed basis.


MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts diagnostics of network and server issues; provides support for staff
  • Updates and maintains network documentation, assigns IP addresses, saves device

configurations

  • Configures network devices for new deployments and configures replacement network

devices from backup configuration files

  • Assists with the administration and maintenance of IP based telephone system
  • Assists in supporting virtual, cloud and physical servers
  • Assists in user desktop issues, helps with computer software installation, solves email

access and routing issues and assists with desktop backup and archiving

  • Performs day to day operational tasks such as proactive maintenance, management,

monitoring performance, incident and problem management, security, and backup and

recovery across the network infrastructure

  • Ability to adapt equipment and technology to serve user needs

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree or college diploma in computing or information technology or

equivalent combination of education, training and experience

  • Three years of experience working with networks and servers for a medium to large

enterprise with complex technology environments

  • Working knowledge of computer systems, peripherals, and communications equipment
  • Working knowledge of computer networking and cabling infrastructure
  • Working knowledge of communication systems for data, voice and video
  • Working knowledge of MDM solutions e.g. Jamf, Moyle
  • Ability to work independently under own initiative and in a team environment to resolve

issues and meet deadlines

  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees as well as vendors and suppliers
  • Ability to write documentation and training materials
  • Self motivated to learn and acquire new skills
  • Possess excellent problem solving skills


Experience in a majority of specific skills:

  • Networking
  • Understands issues involved in administering and maintaining corporate

WAN/LAN infrastructure, including network cabling, routing protocols,testing

network connectivity, firewall configurations, tablet and desktop internet

applications, etc.

  • Understands network address management concepts, including IP subnetting.
  • Experience in switch management (HP/ Aruba and Meraki preferred)
  • Server Administration
  • Has working knowledge of major server operating systems, including but not

limited to Apple, Linux and Windows Server versions

  • Has working knowledge of virtualization platforms, Hyper-V or VMware vSphere.
  • Familiar with enterprise data storage solutions utilizing iSCSI, NFS, and similar

technologies

  • Proficient at administering common network services, such as DNS, DHCP, NTP,

etc.

  • Telephone
  • Has working knowledge of traditional POTS systems, including voice and fax
  • Understands Voice over IP systems (VoIP)
  • Ability to provision handsets, setting up extensions, supporting user requests


Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

  • Responsibilities may require working evenings and weekends, sometimes with little

advance notice

  • Ability to distinguish between colors, see details at close range, see details at a distance,

under low light conditions, distances less than 3 feet and greater than 20

  • Regular travel is required between locations
  • Ability to reach hands and arms in any direction, to seize, hold, and turn an object
  • Required to interact with external customers and/or the general public
  • Ability to exert 25 to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 15 to 30 lbs. of force

frequently


OTHER: This is a twelve-month position, which reports to the Director of Technology. A valid

motor vehicle license is required as travel between schools and the Education Center is

necessary on a regular basis.
