The Vision Zero Program has an opening for an IT Geospatial Analyst Sr. to address a core element of the overall safe systems approach of Austin’s Vision Zero program: Data Evaluation and Analysis. Significant program decisions depend on high quality data analysis to inform our initiatives and collaborations with ATD’s other divisions and other key partner agencies.
The Vision Zero Program has an opening for an IT Geospatial Analyst Sr. to address a core element of the overall safe systems approach of Austin’s Vision Zero program: Data Evaluation and Analysis. Significant program decisions depend on high quality data analysis to inform our initiatives and collaborations with ATD’s other divisions and other key partner agencies.
The IT GIS Analyst Sr. will perform regular and rigorous data analyses to identify opportunities to reduce the future occurrence of severe car crashes. The position will be responsible for developing reports and GIS-based applications to inform operational decision-making as well as informing the public. The Austin Strategic Mobility Plan and Strategic Direction 2023 provide the policy guidance and define the performance measures for Vision Zero efforts.
The ideal candidate is passionate about achieving Vision Zero goals, has an in-depth understanding of data management best practices, is comfortable with flexibility, and can work in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. The candidate will bring curiosity and passion about data, geospatial visualization of data, and solving problems through robust analysis and creative strategic thinking.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using desktop and web-based geographic information systems (GIS) to produce maps and manage geospatial data in an enterprise setting.
- Experience using a wide range of geospatial technologies in their daily work, including, but not limited to, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, PostGIS, QGIS, CARTO, and Mapbox Studio.
- Proven knowledge of designing and administering geospatial databases, as well as automating data processing tasks using programming languages; FME is strongly preferred along with Model Builder, or similar tools.
- Demonstrated creative problem-solving by developing applications or tools to solve challenges where existing tools do not exist or are not available.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and serve as a resource to Vision Zero team members.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Designs, implements, and/or performs data management activities such as modifying elements and assigning privileges.
- Performs programming activities such as design, development, testing, debugging, documentation, and modification of geospatial applications.
- Analyzes data from various sources to produce data sets, cartographic layouts, and reports in accordance with specifications and standards.
- Researches and interprets source records and documents.
- Performs business process analysis, develops alternatives, and makes recommendations.
- Responds to requests for information from internal and external customers.
- Assists with the creation, publication, implementation, and improvement of IT policies, governance, standards, and security.
- Installs new software releases and/or upgrades including researching, testing, and implementing new geospatial technology.
- Communicates and interfaces with members of the IT, vendor, and user communities.
