General Summary

The Ada County Prosecutor’s Office is dedicated to serving Idaho’s largest community, keeping it a safe place to live and work, giving a voice to crime victims and advocating for the citizens of Ada County.

Provides technical and administrative assistance to the Ada County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office/Investigations Unit; work is performed under well established guidelines and requires a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, efficiency, and ability to multi-task. The ideal candidate enjoys work that is repetitive in nature, time-sensitive, and deadline focused. This position is located in the Ada County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Criminal Division.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
Performs key, time-sensitive clerical functions that are sometimes recurring in nature and can be specialized in scope. At times, the assistant will be tasked with more complex clerical tasks which will require a broad range of knowledge and ability to exercise independent judgment. Completed work is reviewed from an overall standpoint in terms of feasibility, compatibility with other work, and effectiveness in meeting expected results.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for processing searches and reports related to background screening applications;
  • Conducts and prepares criminal background check packages;
  • Accesses a variety of databases to review, collect, copy, and collate criminal background check information;
  • Maintains ILETS / NCIC certification;
  • Assists with evidence handling, packaging, and storage, and maintains chain-of-custody;
  • Examines police reports and court data to ensure proper evidence disposal.
  • Retrieves and copies media evidence, ensuring quality transfer across media platforms;
  • Resolves inquiries from individuals in person, by telephone, and via correspondence;
  • Ability to safely operate a county vehicle (passenger car) in order to facilitate delivery of documents, files and/or records;
  • Creates correspondence and reports;
  • Maintains statistical data relevant to the assigned department;
  • Operates office machines, including computers, printers, copiers, scanners, and other basic office equipment;
  • Performs data entry;
  • Proofreads written material for accuracy and completeness.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Performs related functions as required.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required;
  • Knowledge of the court system;
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, and Adobe;
  • Ability to develop, prepare and maintain accurate records and files;
  • Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, take initiative, and handle sensitive information in a confidential manner, focus on multiple projects and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions;
  • Ability to multi-task in manner to increase efficiency;
  • Ability to interact and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, elected officials, department heads and the general public.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • The incumbent is subject to a criminal records check and fingerprinting;
  • Must adhere to the Code of Ethics for the legal profession;
  • The incumbent will work closely with law enforcement and court personnel;
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Idaho driver’s license;
  • This position has been designated safety sensitive and therefore the incumbent is subject to random drug testing.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment and the employee in this class is subject to inside environmental conditions;
  • This position works independently, and shift begins at 5 am weekdays to meet Office needs;
  • May be required to lift up to 25 pounds;
  • Requires sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to function in a general office environment to accomplish tasks.
