COMPENSATION:
$72,505.42 - $86,788.99/year +DOE + Benefits, Exempt Position

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Iñupiaq Studies Coordinator/Manager leads and facilitates the Iñupiaq Studies Department non-academic cultural programming such as weekly Iñupiaq Cultural Hour activities, assisting and supporting extension workshops, providing cultural orientations, and others upon request.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports external relations with other entities including Inupiaq History, Language, and Culture Department (IHLC), the North Slope Borough School District (NSBSD), and others.
  • Supports Iñupiaq Studies faculty with Iñupiaq Studies courses and other academic programming such as events, summer camps, the Iñupiaq Fine Arts Festival, workshops, and more.
  • Support students and instruction as applicable.
  • Represents the department in committee meetings as needed, including, Dean’s Council, Cabinet Meeting, Board of Trustees, etc. Leads projects and meetings for the Unapologetically Iñupiaq Initiative, including Iḷisaġvik Orientation activities and other opportunities as available.
  • Coordinates cultural events such as Inuit Day, Indigenous People’s Day, Welcoming the Sun, and others for Iḷisaġvik College and other entities as requested.
  • Supervises Iñupiaq Studies departmental staff and interns.
  • Facilitates presentations and workshops, and attends special events or conferences, as required.
  • Responsible for the department’s grants reporting and compliance.
  • Provides administrative support for the department, including course paperwork, time sheets, purchases, and reports.
  • Travels to villages periodically to promote the program through student and instructor recruitment, as needed.
  • Complies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of North Slope and statewide agencies.
  • Demonstrated experience in public speaking, leading workshops, and/or facilitating groups.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point as well as Internet research.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule and travel periodically.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations; Iñupiat culture, language, values, and traditions.
  • Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.
  • Ability to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.
  • Ability to support Iḷisaġvik College’s mission.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/EXPERIENCE [Required]:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Education, Indigenous and/or Alaska Native Studies, or related field.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Preferred]:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in education or related field.
  • 1+ years of successful professional teaching, administrative and/or equivalent experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Health Insurance - Iḷisaġvik College is self-insured and Meritain Health is the health insurance third party administrator. Iḷisaġvik College offers health insurance to our employees with a no cost premium, and $50/month for each additional dependent and a low cost annual deductible of $200 for employee only and $600 for family.

Life Insurance - Iḷisaġvik College offers Life Insurance and Accidental Death & Dismemberment coverage through Guardian Life to employees at no cost to the employee in the amount of $100,000/per benefit.
