Job Description


The mission of the Office of Equity & Title IX (ETIX) is to promote, advance, and sustain an environment of equity and inclusiveness by ensuring equal access to educational and employment opportunities for all in the University of Missouri-Kansas City community.

In support of this mission, and with respect to the values of the University, the Intake Officer and Supportive Measures Specialist operates as a member of the ETIX team and works in collaboration with a multitude of campus and community partners to address all aspects of the University’s response to reports of discrimination and harassment based on protected identity.

Responsibilities Include:
Complaint Response:

  • Completes intake and assessment of incoming complaints of discrimination, harassment, and misconduct based on protected identity, including complaints of sexual harassment and assault
  • Conducts preliminary fact-finding as appropriate
  • Provides supportive measures to complaining and responding parties, including but not limited to
    • referral to or assistance in contacting campus support services such as counseling, academic support, and medical services;
    • arrangement of mutual contact restrictions between individuals;
    • adjusting courses, assignments, exam schedules, extracurricular activities, work schedules, work assignments, supervisory responsibilities, or work arrangements;
    • altering on-campus housing assignments, dining arrangements, or other campus services
  • Recommends action steps to the Director of Equity & Title IX
  • Ensures a well-documented intake and assessment process
  • Assist Investigators with preparing written investigative reports by reviewing, summarizing, and evaluating relevant information collected during investigations
  • May assist Investigators with conducting thorough and impartial investigations into complaints of discrimination, harassment, and misconduct based on protected identity, including complaints of sexual harassment and assault

Training, Education, and Outreach:

  • Assists in developing and disseminating Equity & Title IX educational materials, including brochures, posters, and web-based materials
  • Develops and maintains relationships with campus and community partners
  • Represents the ETIX office on University and community committees as appropriate
  • May work in conjunction with campus and community partners to offer training and educational programming aimed at preventing and addressing discrimination, harassment, and misconduct based on protected identity, including sexual harassment and assault under Title IX

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Stays abreast of changes and trends in rules, regulations, and case law concerning discrimination, harassment, and misconduct based on protected identity in higher education and in the workplace
  • Assists as needed with accommodations due to disability, religious practices, and pregnancy
  • Ensures compliance with record keeping and confidentiality of protected information
  • Maintains positive and professional interactions with all constituencies, treating everyone with dignity and respect
  • Completes other duties as assigned
  • Evening and weekend hours and travel may be required

Minimum Qualifications


A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment and ability to meet the needs of a diverse population with a focus on equity and inclusiveness
  • Solid writing, analytical, and organizational skills (writing sample may be requested)
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands
  • Ability to maintain confidential information, exercise sound and objective judgment, and work independently
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet applications (social media, report tracking, etc.)
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret federal and state equal opportunity and non-discrimination laws, regulations, and guidance applicable to institutions of higher education, including Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, VAWA, Clery Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and ADA and other related laws and policies
  • Experience in higher education, student conduct, program planning, and/or working with legal service organizations

Salary


Salary range starts at $48,900 and will be commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
