POSITION SUMMARY
This position serves as an Instructor for the Adult Activity Center at an agency that serves adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Autism or similar conditions. The participants served in the Adult Activity Center have a variety of needs; some which include total care such as being in wheelchairs and needing assistance with their activities of daily living such as feeding, restroom assistance, and participating in the day services activities. Some participants may be ambulatory and some may have medical needs, are non-verbal or have little vocabulary and require much support. The Adult Activity Center Instructor will be responsible for implementing the activities that are to be provided for the participants in the program according to their daily schedule. The Adult Activity Center Instructor will also align adaptations for the daily activities according to the participant’s abilities and needs. Knowledge and experience in providing direct care to individuals who need assistance as well as experience following a schedule of fun and purposeful activities that our Adult Activity Center participants would enjoy and benefit from. Experience with individuals with disabilities is also strongly preferred, however training will be provided.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Experience: Experience or desire to work with those who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, or similar conditions in providing physical and medical assistance as well as assistance with daily activities.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE Category II
Category II tasks involve exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials. Appropriate personal protective equipment is readily available to all that may be exposed to blood or bodily fluids.
PHYSICAL/ MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Standing frequently, walking, speaking and hearing frequently, vision to allow for reading, use of office equipment. Manual dexterity to allow for typing and operating office equipment. Heavy lifting of adult individuals who need physical assistance. Reaching, bending, and stooping occasionally to assist clients and to reach supplies and equipment.
POSITION TYPE/ EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is an hourly position from 8:00-4:30pm with the flexibility to work past 4:30 only if necessary. Weekends are off. Eligibility for criminal record check and abuse history clearance.
DUTIES OF POSITION
- Implement daily activity schedule and instruction to individuals participating in the Adult Activity Center.
- Assist the Assistant Director with planning unique and specific thematic activities for the monthly calendar and implement those activities according to the day.
- Work collaboratively with the classroom assistant as well as the Assistant Director of the program.
- Provide assistance to individuals who will need feeding, toileting, or changing in addition to other physical needs.
